Thanks for all the birthday wishes! I will try and reply to them all over the week. Paris was amazing. My head felt stuffed full of things by the end of the trip, and we did so much walking omg. I have pictures.

It's been a bit of a hectic week so far. Got orders to do (yay shop!), my [livejournal.com profile] help_hiati fic to finish,  and at the weekend there was surprise [livejournal.com profile] buckle_berry, who swooped down into Oxford. We had lunch in St Mary's Vaults, managing to miss the table reservation drama enacted between Berry's mum and friends and the waiting staff. Our waiter was a Colin Morgan-alike so I didn't really mind his seemingly continual trips to our table.

This afternoon there is a [livejournal.com profile] tarteaucitron and we're going to have a mini spn marathon so I can catch up with the last four (five?) eps since the hiatus! It's like it's my birthday or something... oh wait.

Paris

I'm off to gay Paris for a few days to celebrate my birthday, which is on Monday. Mr Lux is treating me and I did all the arranging - the perfect holiday! It's sort of a joint birthday treat because, for reasons that do not need to be explored at this juncture, he sort of missed having a big do on his birthday. We're planning to do some shamelessly touristy stuff, plus a lot of sitting around in cafes eating and drinking. We want to go to Pere Lachaise, the Eiffel Tower, the catacombs, the museum of relief maps in Les Invalides, La Duree for cake eating, plus just wandering about this beautiful city. That kind of seems a lot for two days though. But we can try.

See you all on Wednesday!

Title: From the heart
Pairing: Roger/Rafa
Rating: NC 17
Word count: 10,003
Warnings: explicit m/m
Disclaimer: everything in here is completely fictional
Notes: this is written for [livejournal.com profile] niennah's prompt: Sometime in the future, when they haven't met for some time (one or both have retired), Roger and Rafa meet and look at photos of their tennis days, reminiscing. Perhaps realising something they never realised before... ? I hope this is something along the lines of what you wanted! Thanks so much for [livejournal.com profile] emungere for beta and plot chewing, and to [livejournal.com profile] buckle_berry for beta and holding my clammy hands during the tennis. Eta: I made a bit of a booboo in the first version of this I uploaded, so this is v1.2.

Summary: Set at Wimbledon 2025. Their tennis careers are long over, but Rafa and Roger are bought together again as commentators. This leads to many realisations, and also some inept commentating.

Oh, Rog! 16 slams! But poor Mand. I felt for him.

There were tears again, not Roger's this time. What is it about the AO that makes everyone cry?

Guys! Guess what? I found another copy of Sherlock Holmes and the Choked Chicken!

Behold )

Yes! Imagine my cries of joy as I fell on it. This is a pic of the previous wallet I made from it, but I'm going to make this new one up tomorrow, except with a slightly different lining. I've also altered the wallet lining design so that now it has a large pocket at the back like a proper wallet, for bank notes. I'm feeling pretty chuffed about that. It's fiddly as hell.

The pic links to my Etsy shop.

I've also been fiddling around with the dark art of bookmarks, partly because someone asked me if I made them and I was all: 'No?' So I ordered some of those cool giant paperclip type ones, and some of the shepherd's crook style ones and began to experiment a bit.

There's still time to bid on me for [livejournal.com profile] help_haiti, which was set up as way to help fans raise money for the Haiti earthquake disaster.

I've put up an offer of my fanfic services here, with the offer of a fanfic between 1-5k in the various fandoms I've written in.

Bidding ends today, 20 Jan at 5pm GMT or 12pm EST.

If you don't fancy something by me, snap up some of the awesome stuff on offer!

There's currently a fanfic community called [livejournal.com profile] help_haiti, which was set up as way to help fans raise money for the Haiti earthquake disaster. You can bid for fic, art, vids, graphics, food and other things, with donations going to a charity you choose.

There's nothing like feeling useless to spur me into action, weirdly. I've put up an offer of my fanfic services here, with the offer of a fanfic between 1-5k in the various fandoms I've written in. I've started the bidding at five GB pounds. Bidding ends on 20 Jan.

I hope some of you come along and bid on me!

eta: many thanks already to [livejournal.com profile] amai_kaminari and [livejournal.com profile] lechymonk for your awesome and generous bids.

I cycled 5 miles today to collect a box of gourmet chocolates. Is that a fair deal? I don't know.

Apparently the unusually cold weather here (and the unusual mild weather in Newfoundland) is to do with something called the Arctic Oscillation, which is a mysterious weather system that no one understands properly. In any case, it's chucking down snow here and I can't get warm properly and now I properly understand the point of thermal undergarments.

Ps - I have a tumblr, here: Swiss Navy. It's mostly pictures of Rafa and Roger but will be for anything one pretty, I think.

We had a flying visit from [livejournal.com profile] new_kate last night, who swooped into Reading at 11.30pm like some sort of New Year's Eve ninja! It was so exciting! It was great to spend time talking about our goings on and fandom. She's gone back Up North now, and I've been pottering about all day doing things like sorting out my accounts, watching some tennis and eating pasta.

Dr Who thoughts spoilers )

Yuletide reveal! I wrote an 11,500 Melusine fic: Cast our Fevers in Stone, which is Felix/Mildmay by way of a ghost story, and I'm very proud of it. The idea of working with these characters terrified me but the writing of it turned into a joy. A huge thank you to [livejournal.com profile] tarteaucitron, who encouraged me and cheered me on, and to [livejournal.com profile] emungere who as always was wise and kind and helped me thrash out plot details, and to [livejournal.com profile] tarteaucitron, [livejournal.com profile] emungere and [livejournal.com profile] daegaer for last minute beta services. Thank you!

I had two stories written for me, the author of one of which was INCREDIBLY OBVIOUSLY [livejournal.com profile] daegaer! Funky Robot Tennis RPS. It's wonderful and awesome and is exactly tailored to my specific brand of crazy ♥

Crying and other impossible feats by smartie1685 is an adorable Bradley James/Colin Morgan RPF. Thank you!

Happy New Year everyone! Here's to health, happiness and even completed novels in 2010!

I got some amazing parcels and cards over the holiday period. Thanks so much to [livejournal.com profile] puddingcat and [livejournal.com profile] scribblemoose - I got your lovely cards this morning! Also thank you to [livejournal.com profile] kaoticwords, [livejournal.com profile] toscas_kiss, [livejournal.com profile] rose_gialle, [livejournal.com profile] snowballjane and [livejournal.com profile] chomiji for your beautiful cards. I opened each one of them with a mooky grin.

[livejournal.com profile] buckle_berry sent me haggis! And other edible Scottish things in a food parcel of wonder! Nearly everything is gone now apart from a couple of oatcakes and the actual haggis, which I think we are going to eat tomorrow. Thank you, Scottish person of wonder. <3

[livejournal.com profile] emungere sent me not only the COLOURING BOOK OF COCKS, yes, but also a Roger Federer hat in the classy white/pale blue colourway to wear while I am colouring in. Not only that, she also sent me an item that has become known as the 'warming cat' - a handmade cat-shaped bag with a removable inner that you can mircowave and then reinsert into the cat. She made it by hand and it's just a gorgeous thing. It has cymbals for eyes!

Here it is in all its glory, with the RF hat lurking in the background.

Also, Roger and Rafa are enjoying New Year's Eve together in Abu Dhabi. Here they are warming up together on shiny space age tennis court!

Happy roast potato day for yesterday! I hope everyone's having a good and happy holiday. We spent most of it cooking, eating and then sleeping - it was grand. The evergreen organism in the sitting room looks so pretty, I must take pictures of it. My brother sent me some amarylis (?) that are huge and dark red, and are opening up splendidly. The snow has nearly all gone though.

I'm being forced out on a "healthy" bike ride now even though my head is all stuffy and cold-filled. Indignation! But we are taking coffee and mince pies so all is not lost. Suppose I'd better get dressed and all that. Mr Lux is getting impatient.

Moar reportage on presents later.

Monday

Am suffering from a massive calorie hangover this morning, after [livejournal.com profile] tarteaucitron's fantastic mince pie and eggnog party on Friday, then two consecutive days of lavish roast Christmas dinners. My life, so hard.

But despite all the time spent eating, the Yuletide fic of ever increasing length is DONE. *rejoices with tea*

Today, I'm making a book handbag for a friend, which is exciting! I'm also going to buy a-- proper, live-- Christmas tree, hang up fairy lights and maybe make that swag thing. I need to get a new fleecy jacket for my Dad. Write cards, buy presents, send presents, go to post office etc etc.

I'm sad to hear that Brittany Murphy has died. I never knew this at the time, but she was the voice of Luanne Platter in King of the Hill, a show that I loved with a fiery love.
louiselux: (Default)
It was snowing today. I love snow! I'm feeling really festive and have the powerful urge to install evergreen organisms in the sitting room. I'm going to make a 'swag' this year too. It's where you tie lots of greenery and herbs to a bit of... rope? Something like that. And then hang it in a loop from the ceiling. Or something like that.

My Yuletide is up and trundling along, up to about 3.5k so far. It's really amazing for me writing in this fandom-- I'm sort of on a fic high at the moment. Note 'at the moment' before the doom of getting it all done and prettied up by the 21st hits home. But yay!

The shop has been really busy so I haven't had time to send any cards and presents yet this year, which makes me sad. So that's all going to be late. :( But if you'd like a January/New Year/Wombat day card from me leave a comment below. (They'll be screened).

Cable tv

We're finally giving in and getting cable tv with phone and broadband as a package. Virgin Media have quite a good deal. I was wondering if anyone is with Virgin Media, and are they okay?
louiselux: (Default)
Thank you for all my snowflakes! It's a lovely blizzard! *hugses*

Also!

Today is the last day to leave prompts for the Fedal winter ficathon and I urge you, nay, implore you to leave prompts. If you do it means there will be more Fedal fic, and that is probably going to be a really really good thing.

On that note, everyone, [livejournal.com profile] buckle_berry wrote an awesome angsty and hot story, which I recommend you should read if you are any way interested in Roger/Rafa: On the Ropes - NC 17

I has a porridge. Yum.

I was late getting up this morning. I spent yesterday in headless chicken mode getting my craft show stall ready, then going along to set up and then staying in the evening for the opening. Someone bought a badge while I was there, so it was exciting! I failed to resist temptation and bought some brown woolly handwarmers. Fingers crossed my stuff will go over well.

I owe people emails and stuff - sorry if I haven't got back to you yet!

It's the tennis today - Rafa is playing Thomas Berdych at 3pm today GMT in the homoerotic love fest that is the Spanish Davis Cup!

ETA: stream here if you need it! http://www.fromsport.com/c-4.html

Also, an awesome Bradley/Colin vid that obsessively documents moments of eye contact, set to some particularly cheesy tinkly piano music.
louiselux: (Default)
Note to self - watch Merlin v soon.

The Parental Units came today to deliver many delicious pastry and cake products into my freezer ready for Christmas. I feel preemptively three kilos heavier. Must go the gym tomorrow.

The Empire of Bags is developing. I've just done my third wholesale order and have another in the pipeline. I've been making stuff like crazy as I have a craft fair beginning next Thursday running to next Sunday. If anyone's interested it's here, in Henley on Thames. Argh, nervous. But, I have a lift there sorted out, and a table, and a big list of things I need to take and to get done. There is a central paying system so I don't need a card reader or anything like that.

Here's my latest creations:

Guess what happened to me today?

I went back to the O2 Arena to see Roger play. Right! But! I got there with minutes to spare after some interminable fucking around on tube trains that were broken all over London plus much walking. Anyway, I'm rushing up to level 4 where my seat is, high up in the highest gods, and an attendant hoikes me to one side and says: "Are you alone?"

"Uh, yeah?"

"Here." And she presses into my hand a new ticket that is for level 1, much better seat than the one I paid for!

"Um, what?" I said.

"We just have a few single seats spare. We like them to be used."

"Thank you. Wow. Thank you!" And she's laughing at the look on my face. Level 1! The fancy seats!

I stagger back down to Level 1, just in time for the match to begin. At first I can't find this strange row called 'GG'. It's clearly not row G. Finally, I ask an assistant. She takes me right down the steps to the front. It's the second row back, to one corner.

I sit down and Roger Federer is basically serving into my face.

I spend the next two hours alternately gaping, texting and taking photos. There was a moment when he leapt off the court into the air to reach a ball, and smashed it down. It was such a perfect display of athleticism that I, and the whole stadium, involuntarily cried out.

Afterwards, in some sort of karmic payback, all the trains at Paddington were delayed and then I got drenched cycling home. But essentially today was a day of amazingness.
louiselux: (Default)
Hello World. This has been a week of awesome. I got to see Rafa play on Monday. He was mesmerising, even though he lost. He has small feet and gesticulates a lot and is basically amazingly good to look at. And tomorrow I'm seeing Roger. Live! In the flesh! Smoothing his hair and attractively wiping his nose on his towel! I'm so excited!

I have a spare ticket to the evening semi finals tomorrow night if anyone wants it? It'll be Del Potro v Soderling. I'm seeing Roger's match in the afternoon. Then I'm meeting [livejournal.com profile] niennah for cocktails (super-awesome!). So I'm not going to want to go back and watch a match I'm not totally interested in.

If anyone's interested, drop me a comment.

My day out with Rafa )

The WTF

louiselux: (Default)
It's the World Tennis Finals next week (known formally as the WTF). I'm going to the semi finals day on the 28th of Nov! I'm holding out for Roger and Rafa to both get to the semis but looking at the draw, and considering their current form, that seems unlikely.

Group A: Roger Federer, Andy Murray, Juan Martin del Potro, Fernando Verdasco

Group B: Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic, Nikolay Davydenko, Robin Soderling

*criez*
louiselux: (Default)
The Empire of Bags has a rush wholesale order due by Friday, so I am a bit busy. HOWEVER, I just wanted to procrastinate by posting some Rafa and Roger pics that have caught my eye this week. I'm feeling simply desperate amounts of Fedal love since rewatching Wimbers 08 with [livejournal.com profile] buckle_berry at the weekend ans sighing at the unnecessary hair touching and stroking. Sigh sigh.

Stubbly, freckley, smiley Rafa from today's Guardian interview )
louiselux: (Default)
I spent the weekend with [livejournal.com profile] tarteaucitron, [livejournal.com profile] buckle_berry and on Saturday [livejournal.com profile] matildafilch too. It was just a lovely lovely blur of wine, cake, spn, tennis and Merlin.

It was just so happy making and awesome. Now I have lingering hangover and I'm missing everyone painfully much.

Two tennis items though!

Interview with Rafa under the cut (translated by Denizen from vb.com).

I think fear is part of life. I have fear. )

This weekend, the Times has a quite good interview with Roger, where he goes into a little bit of depth about his life, including his relationship with Rafa. Some things I found specially interesting are under the cut. The whole thing is here.

I have been crying after losing matches since I was five years old )

In Yuletide news, I have my assignment and I'm really pleased with it. It's one I've never written before but that's not exactly giving anything away. I do mean to post one of those 'Dear Yule Goat' posts soon, so please check back here in a couple of days if you are that person!

Finally, NaNo is going okay. It's still very hard and we're a bit behind from plot struggles, but I'm loving writing it.
louiselux: (Default)
Couldn't sleep last night, and the birds woke me up this morning by pecking at the insects on the window. I'm sitting here like a giant mole in my dressing gown, drinking tea and blinking at the light. Not that moles drink tea and wear dressing gowns. I know that. Imagine a more Wind in the Willows sort of scenario. Or maybe don't.

I have lots of post office things to today, and I need to do a lot of work on my empire of bags. Plus my installment of writing and going to the gym.

In the spirit of all that stuff to do, I'm going to post some pictures of Rafa. Because it's the tennis this week! Again! I say that like there isn't always tennis somewhere. It's the last Masters series tournament of the year, in Paris. Rafa has spent the preceding week picking up awards and wearing what look suspiciously like skinny jeans.

rafafa pics )

There's a great interview with Rafa here, where he talks about a lot about Roger, life at home and how he copes with losing. I like how he touches his chest when he talks about Roger.

Two interviews with Roger: At the moment I’m into bergamot. And this one, which is better and quite revealing about how he copes with fame and attention.
louiselux: (Default)
I signed up for Yuletide. Excitement!

The Nano is going well, although it's really hard. It's Vikings and Monks and sort of magic. Hard. But so awesome to be writing it at last. Actually, in some ways it's really easy as the general form of it has been bubbling about in our minds for some time now. It's those fiddly bits of actual plot that are the hard bits.

These late 19th C/early 20th C stereoscopic views of life in Japan are stunning.
