I'm off to gay Paris for a few days to celebrate my birthday, which is on Monday. Mr Lux is treating me and I did all the arranging - the perfect holiday! It's sort of a joint birthday treat because, for reasons that do not need to be explored at this juncture, he sort of missed having a big do on his birthday. We're planning to do some shamelessly touristy stuff, plus a lot of sitting around in cafes eating and drinking. We want to go to Pere Lachaise, the Eiffel Tower, the catacombs, the museum of relief maps in Les Invalides, La Duree for cake eating, plus just wandering about this beautiful city. That kind of seems a lot for two days though. But we can try.

See you all on Wednesday!

Oh wow, we are birthday buddies! :)

Yours sounds so much better... I am currently snowed in at a rural college campus and have a 4 hour biology lab to look forward to on Monday. I hope your birthday celebrations are more exciting (and how could they not be?!).

Yay! Happy birthday to you too :) I hope your day wasn't too spoiled by the lab marathon, and also that you're not still snowed in.

Have fun in my city (and give a shout if you need anything; shezan at gmx dot net).

Tip: Ladurée on the rue Royale is far less of a zoo than Ladurée on the Champs-Elysées, which is a tourist trap. Ladurée on rue Bonaparte on the Left Bank is the most atmospheric of the three. If you want to have the most sinful hot chocolate EVER, head for Angelina's at 218 rue de Rivoli. If the weather is nice, take the bateaux mouches on the river! And if you like smaller museums, consider Musée Camondo and Musée Jacquemart-André!

Thanks so much! I'm going to print this out for future reference. I'm already drooling over the hot chocolate, and those musuems sound interesting. Thanks also for the heads up about the varying La Durees. I had no idea which one to go to. :)

As shezan said, Ladurée on rue Royale is the most quiet of the three Ladurée shops and it is located near the Madeleine church and the place de la Concorde and les jardins des Tuileries.

About the museums, if you like the impressionnists of course you can go to the Musée d'Orsay but it is quite big and only with the queing you easily spend all a day in the museum. But there is also le musée Marmottan which is a small museum in the 16th arrondissement only dedicated to the impressionnists. Oh and be careful in France all the museum are closed on Tuesdays.

What else... I must forgot some things but I don't see anything else. So enjoy your fews days at the max. ;-)

*Flash of utter envy*

That sounds devine. I had the best strawberries I've ever eaten last time I was in Paris. We'd had a lovely meal and didn't quite feel like finishing yet but neither of us can drink coffee that late at night. My SO suggested strawberries and I almost said no, 'cos who wants to pay vastly inflated prices for a dessert that took almpost no work? Turns out I'll remember those strawberrIes forever.

Have a lovely, lovely time. And Happy Birthday!

Yay ! I'm happy for you, you're going to have very good holidays and it is such a nice present.

For the Eiffel tower, I advice you to go earlier since the queue and sometimes the acces for the thord floor is not allowed due to the amount of people.
If you like macaroons or just the delightful patisserie you had to go to Ladurée, but their croissants and pains au chocolat, and macaroons are juste the best in the world for me.

So I wish you in advance an happy birthday and to have a nice trip.
Oh and as for me I got my Roland-Garros tickets hiiii !!! So this year I hope I could see our lovely Rog and Rafa because I have tickets for the 4th round and the quaters finals on central court.

PS : Oh I forgot, if you want at Ladurée, it is possible to take away some macaroons and bring back to England and their boxes are so lovely.
