One trip to the Sue Ryder giant jumble and score! One mouldy and bent copy of Wuthering Heights. It renovated nicely though with a bit of white spirit and some stern clamping. It's the same design as the Heidi bag, that familiar red and gold cover.

Since I made this bag, I had 'Wuthering Heights' by Kate Bush going round in my head for literally days. I mean, I love Kate Bush but enough is enough.

Heathcliff! It's me your Cathy I've come home now, put the kettle on have a lovely cup of tea! )

My new product development! Mills and Boon wallets o'romance. I'm really pleased how these turned out, although the vinyl is a real bitca to sew. Thank you , [livejournal.com profile] toscas_kiss, for the lend of the special grabber foot. Total lifesaver.

moar under here )

I also found some awesome mouldy paperbacks today, all old Sherlock Holmes covers that have a bit of potential. One of them shows Holmes gripping a cock in one hand, round the neck.

Also, I might (no, I mean, I AM going to) be doing nano tomorrow with [livejournal.com profile] emungere. We have a plan! Sort of.

Yuletides

I've been lurking round the yuletide nominations page all afternoon. So far I've picked:

Tennis RPF (Fedal) - man I wish Fedal was a bigger fandom. *Criez*

Melusine - scary! But what the hell. I want to try writing Felix/Mildmay. If not for Yuletide then I have always got [livejournal.com profile] tarteaucitron's hairbrushing prompt to fall back on, by which I mean actually write.

The Bone Key - I love Monette's creepy museum, which seems a character all but itself-- except I've forgotten what it's called-- and also Kyle Murchison Booth.

Merlin RPF - is this still a small obscure fandom? I kind of have a hankering to write it.

Others-- um, I just don't know which other two obscure fandoms to pick. I don't really want to write Mary Renault, which I did do one year. Sherlock Holmes is kind of tempting. Hmm hmm. I just don't know!

A moment of adorableness from the Shanghai Masters tennis:

Rafa and a fan )

A little interview pre Shanghai, where Rafa says very firmly that it's always better to have Roger there.

Update on the Empire of Bags - I have a second wholesale order and four bag commissions on the go! Let the wooting commence.

Also, I made a new bag today: 'Stories for Girls'. Not Gay stories for Girls, sadly. Although [livejournal.com profile] tarteaucitron did help me track down a copy of that particular book. It's on my wishlist of things to make.

Also I've done some further twiddling about with book clocks and I think the results look kind of cool.

In other news, we watched a German climbing film called North Face. It was sad and I cried. And I still haven't seen The Sam and Dean Show aaargh.
louiselux: (Default)
Late as usual, I'm finally fiddling around with my dreamwidth account trying to set it up all nice. I'm louiselux over there too if anyone wants to add me to their reading circle. I'm going to keep reading here as my main fandom thing - I just don't want to miss out on stuff over there too. eta: I'm going to crosspost once I figure out how to do that.

I watched Merlin yesterday. Spoilers... )

Rafa lost at the tennis yesterday, although I had to miss watching it. In fact, he was crushed by Marin Cilic 6-1 6-3, and then afterwards said that he was mentally 'not there'. I find this kind of sad and worrying, but maybe it's nothing more than him having had a largely crappy year of injury and disappointment, and now he wants it to be over. Roger is still out of action, presumed babysitting while Mirka takes the credit cards on holiday.

I've been kind of busy this last week with my Empire of Bags, which seems to be shakily raising itself to its feet-- or to its knees, at least. Lots of the internet floated past me, and I'm sorry about that. There were things I wanted to say to people (some happy birthdays, replies to comments, and also just general i aten't dead type things) that I never got round to saying.

Another thing - tennis is happening! Importantly, Rafa's new outfit for the China Open is kind of bad. Nike put him in checky shorts of doom. I mean, DOOM. And a bright apple green top. But at least he is playing tennis again. I'm gonna watch me some of that! I hope. If there's a stream at some point.

[livejournal.com profile] norah posted some recs for Harry/Draco epics and so I started reading them. It seemed like the thing to do. A lot of them are really good, here.

I caught up with Merline and The Sam and Dean show. Jpad in spoilers )

I have to go to my dentist tomorrow for a checkup. I don't want to go.

[livejournal.com profile] daegaer totally inspired me to make these, for she knows the ways of excessive manliness. Now you too can sport manly ejaculations!

I made these originally for her birthday, but then thought other people might like them too so I put them up on my Etsy shop.

This way to bigger pics of manly Victorian badges

Here's the collated version of Rafa's diary, as promised.

Title: Rafa's Diary
Rating: worksafe, pg for m/mish type stuff
Warnings: none really that I can think of
Disclaimer: this is entirely fictional
Notes: this is the complete, all in one place version. [livejournal.com profile] niennah has written some corresponding sections of Roger's diary, which I recommend you read because she creates such a great Roger voice. It's not essential to read them both at the same time, but it would be fun! So I've put links to Roger's diary entries in the appropriate places throughout this fic. Thank you to [livejournal.com profile] emungere for looking parts of it over and to everyone for encouraging me with feedback - it's much appreciated.

Summary - Rafa's diary throughout the 2009 US Open

Back from the northern lands. [livejournal.com profile] connotations was great. It felt a little different this year, maybe because there were slightly fewer people attending, but I really liked it. As usual I failed at attending many panels and instead maximised my walking on the beach/lounging about/fangirling/drinking times. Bliss.

I spent Saturday morning walking in the sparkling clean sea in the sunshine with [livejournal.com profile] new_kate, then we sat on the sand and drank lattes and really had a focussed discussion about how pretty everyone on Merlin is, especially Bradley James and his awesome haircut. Then we went back down to the beach again on Sunday, where me, [livejournal.com profile] new_kate, [livejournal.com profile] daegaer and [livejournal.com profile] mandragora1 had giant muffins in the cafe there. Saturday night we all got Moderately Tidy (with some stunning dresses and dramatic decolletage!) and had a special Park Hotel meal. "Special".

I do love the Park Hotel - it never learns its lesson somehow. I asked the waitress on Friday night if there was a vegetarian option. I wondered if she'd ever been asked this before from her blank look. "There's... veggies," she said. Um, yeah. Also, our bathroom ceiling lifted off its frame every time we opened the door and the hot water for our shower was missing. I managed to keep my thin summer sundress on at all times despite its being autumn in northern Britain, because the hotel likes to keep its temperature setting at 'heatwave'.

Things that got pimped at me that I want to follow up: Charlie Jade, Psyche, something [livejournal.com profile] fides showed us at about 4am that has got 'State' in the title. Also saw the first episode of Flash Forward, which looks v much like a replacement for Lost. Oh yeah, and I want to investigate the read it swap it website, which [livejournal.com profile] graculus pointed me at.

Also, I decided on the beach that nanowrimo is ON this year. ON in big flashing red letters. It will help me focus back on writing and set time aside to do it every day. *fisty pump of determination* I need to think about what to do.

"A beautiful wholesome bag, designed to put you in mind of innocent youthfulness, log cabins on grassy mountainsides, and Grandfather."

All the time I was making this I was thinking of that BBC childrens tv series that was possibly made in alliance with some Swiss tv company, and Heidi was an adorable curly haired moppet with a piercing voice. My mental notes on Heidi go: Heidi - is shipped away to (or poss from? or both?) log cabin on grassy moutainside with Grandfather. Grandfather dies? Other plot points - don't know. Ending - don't know.

Fandoms

Sep. 23rd, 2009 11:07 pm
louiselux: (Default)
I'm feeling all a bit multifannish at the moment, which is really different and not normal for me. Usually I'm all a bit blinkered to anything but my current objects of lust. I don't know. I still otp Roger/Rafa like anything-- gah, I love them, they are made of unicorns and rainbows-- but the fandom is maybe too small to really wallow in it as one would like.

Merlin is more pretty to me than it was a few months ago, and I really liked the first episode of series two, where spoilers ) Colin Morgan is really pretty, even with giant ears. He is really really pretty. Like, a lot. I also like how Bradley James seems to be actually officer class in real life too, judging from the interviews I've seen of him.

Jensen Ackles is also really really pretty. Oh, god, look at my theme. Supernatural is one of those programmes that I think I am never going to write fic for - and that's a bit freeing actually. Like watching a really good tennis match where you're not invested in the outcome. That's not to say I don't care about the outcome, just that I don't have to take it quite so personally if the plot/real life doesn't go the way I want.

So, anyway, my thesis concludes with people on TV are pretty. That basically sums up everything on my mind right now.
louiselux: (Default)
So anyway, it was the US Open final last weekend, Roger vs Juan Martin Del Potro (from ARG). It was a great match, 5 sets of tussling! Roger didn't win it though, mostly because he forgot how to serve for almost all of the match and anyway Del Potro-- hugely tall, mumbling, sort of overly hairy round the facial area-- was too good. Rog was very serene at the ceremony, which was great to see. There was no drama, for once. I mean, Roger has won a lot. Like, A LOT. Two slams this year already and now he has kids, so he's got other things in his life. So I think five US Opens already seemed enough for him.

It was a momentous occasion - only two other people have won a slam since 2003 when Roger began winning them. When you think about it, that's a ridiculous statistic. I really thought Mandbot would have a chance this time, but the wheels fell of that in the fourth round. Del Potro snuffled damply during the ceremony. When asked afterwards what he might spend some of his £1.25m winnings on he said: "Probably some cheesecake for my birthday." Not even a cheesecake shaped like a sportscar!

Also! Roger was in a bad temper for most of the match-- probably because of that slightly annoying inability to serve at all-- and he swore at the umpire! Three times! I just keep watching the Youtube over and over. I never heard him swear before at all. It's like the best thing ever.

I'm going to Cornwall tomorrow so I'll miss the Davis Cup antics: Spain are playing Israel, UK are playing Poland, Switzerland are playing Italy.

I made shiny new bags! I'm really happy with these two. I love the letters fabric a lot - shame it's so hard to track down.

Also, I'm going to [livejournal.com profile] connotations the weekend after next! The room with is paid for now, so... I better get my backside in gear and actually register.

It's the end of the road, for now. Thank you everyone for following this story! I'm probably going to edit and repost this as one long fic over the next few days, just to soothe my tidy mind.

The dentist was okay. No tentacle gum creatures to be found. I have a strange bite that he thinks has bruised my gum, so he ground down the hurty tooth by two millimetres and he hopes that will settle things. My dentist is from Australia. He is flying back there this afternoon to compete in the world triathlon championships. I am so impressed by my sporty dentist!

I have half-written day three of Rafa's diary, and yesterday I made an adorable little bag!, so I'm feeling productive apart from an intense need to sleep. We stayed up till 3am to watch Roger v Simon Greul. Rogelio won, after a short period in the third set where he forgot how to play tennis. Also, Rafa. <3
