I'm feeling all a bit multifannish at the moment, which is really different and not normal for me. Usually I'm all a bit blinkered to anything but my current objects of lust. I don't know. I still otp Roger/Rafa like anything-- gah, I love them, they are made of unicorns and rainbows-- but the fandom is maybe too small to really wallow in it as one would like.

Merlin is more pretty to me than it was a few months ago, and I really liked the first episode of series two, where Arthur was a total douchebag to Merlin and Merlin was all sad and wistful and, well, jealous about having his place usurped by Cedric and his awesome hair. Colin Morgan is really pretty, even with giant ears. He is really really pretty. Like, a lot. I also like how Bradley James seems to be actually officer class in real life too, judging from the interviews I've seen of him.

Jensen Ackles is also really really pretty. Oh, god, look at my theme. Supernatural is one of those programmes that I think I am never going to write fic for - and that's a bit freeing actually. Like watching a really good tennis match where you're not invested in the outcome. That's not to say I don't care about the outcome, just that I don't have to take it quite so personally if the plot/real life doesn't go the way I want.

So, anyway, my thesis concludes with people on TV are pretty. That basically sums up everything on my mind right now.

Multifannishly, I hear you! I find it very difficult to be in my tiny sub-fandom of one over in J-Pop Madness... which is mostly because nobody except me is writing fanfic I want to read. Which is kind of like stumbling through a desert half-dead of thirst and watching people all around you gulp down delicious water that *you can't drink*. Or could, but can't because you can't digest it properly. Uhm. (That allegory kind of got away from me... sorry about that. *g*)

Have been avoiding Merlin for fear it might make me abandon my difficult fandom for greener pastures - because before that happens, I need to finish my epic. :-)

Who's your j-pop-madness OTP, then?

ahahaha ... sadly it is the truly truly ghei sparkly rainbows of that OT5 known as ARASHI ... and that pairing fondly referred to as OhMiya SK wit JunToshi as a not so secret crush and Aiba/Ohno too. Although with Arashi you can slash anyone with anyone really.

Although I know that OhMiya is a popular pairing, just sometimes not what I want to read. I wish I was more prolific and just that touch better at writing too hee! ^_~

But Yaaay sparkly!!!

Ah, so a lack of good fiction more than a complete lack of fiction? Or a lack of a particular kind of fiction? Yes, that's also tough...

It really is a shame jpop isn't a more fanfic-heavy fandom. Perhaps it's the nature of a canon that naturally attracts fans interested in music, concerts, interviews and pretty pictures and all that more than fanfic...? On the other hand, bandom has attracted a fair number of prolific and excellent fanwriters...

I suspect we're just unlucky!

Sometimes it isn't even good fiction. (quite possibly I'm just picky/fussy/pedantic) Whilst English and grammar isn't a forte with me ... the lack of real thought in these areas are the real letdowns for me I think. Don't mistake me there are stellar writers out there that are a pleasure to read. but the gems are few. Also a lot of folk tend to bring out multi-post fics. That are very good too. BUT *sigh* the thing with coming late to boybandery with hubby and children in tow is that I like to read nice short one shot-ty type things.

I'm picky/fussy and pedantic I know. My fault I guess, because there really are a number of prolific and excellent ficcers.

I'm trying to recognise your icons by the way and am failing miserably. May I ask who they are? THe one at the top looks like Koikke from WaT but I might be totally wrong of course. Also who is YOUR j-pop fandom then? I tend to shy away from too many comms. mainly because I really don't have time for it all and by heavens some of the drama in them can out-drama the best angst filled K & J- drama!

Hey, I hear you on the problem of finding good fiction. I am generally rather fussy too, although this fandom has worn me down to the point where I'd be willing to make enormous allowances, if only someone would write the pairing (or the one character) at ALL.

The guys in my icons basically are my jpop fandom: The one on the top (and in this icon) is Junno from KAT-TUN, and the other one is Ryo, from News and Kanjani8. I ship them hard, and I am the only one in the world who does, I think. :-)(I have a pimping post here (http://rheasilvia.livejournal.com/38752.html?mode=reply), if you're interested, though I don't blame you if you're not. *g*)

Oh no, you are lost in a Jpop desert! Is that because you've fallen for that pairing that no one writes? You're surrounded by super rich high sugar milkshakes when what you want is delicious pomegranate juice? Tennis is a bit like that too. It's a big sprawling fandom but not many people actually write Roger/Rafa.

Wah!

*throws toys from pram*

Finish your epic then watch Merlin. It's really very gay and pretty.

That's it exactly - the Jpop desert doesn't carry pomegranate juice at all! And what *is* the deal with those milkshake things anyway?

I suspected tennis would be the same: All empty calories and no tasty spice.

WAH!!

*tramples around on toys thrown from tram*

Yes, that is the plan! Have already got the Merlin eps lined up, and a huge bunch of fic saved in preparation for that day. Must write faster. :-)

I'm having the opposite. I can't really find anything to love/obsess over right now. It's all very sad. So consequently I am writing all these half-fics for a bunch of things (although I did do crack SPN a day ago. Jensen Ackles *is* pretty, and Misha Collins is soooo coming in a close second, because wow those eyes and that mouth! And that voice!).

And ooooh Merlin! Morgan is also incredibly pretty! And I love how toffy BJ is as Arthur. It makes me sad that no-one out there seems to think Merlin ever tops, when personally I think Arthur would make an awesome surly bottom, ordering Merlin around and acting completely entitled about doing almost none of the work, and then being shocked and appalled that he utterly, utterly loved it (he's the hero, after all! Heroes don't bottom! Do they?).

Okay, so that's Devi's Inner Mind Theatre playing, and if I really was inspired to write Merlin, that's totally how it would happen. I just wish someone else would write it instead T__T

Wait. Did that entire reply turn into fangirling about pretty men? How did that happen??!

Also? I'm kind of picturing Rafa and Roger skipping around in fields of flowers, with sparkly rainbows and sparkles and white, horned horses with flowing manes in background, and it is awesome.

For years I focused solely on one fandom at a time, but these days that feels almost impossible. Especially since moving to LJ, people talk about other fandoms and you get sucked in whether you meant to or not; also, like you say, most fandoms are so smalllll. The nice thing for me about Roger/Rafa though is that they sparkle all on their own without any fanon/fic even needed (don't get me wrong, I love the fic, but their canon rules).

Anyway, on the other hand, fandoms like Merlin can almost feel TOO big. I'll never be able to read all of the fic -- when I first started watching, I actually did, you know, walk through the entire [livejournal.com profile] merlinxarthur archive, and that was actually doable without quitting my job and living on caffeine. Now? Not a chance, and I'm certain I'm missing out on some wonderful gems, or on some Colin-Bradley stupidity. (You have seen their video diaries (http://worldwouldend.livejournal.com/147517.html), yes? They are both stupid and stupidly pretty.)

I don't watch SPN, but I did watch Dark Angel, and it was entirely based on the hotness of Jensen Ackles!

Roger/Rafa - they slash themselves, it is true. In fact, I think the entire world is really Fedal judging by the things the tennis pundits say. The merest prospect of Fedal matches sends everyone wild.

Their video diaries are adorable! Such dorkitude. I haven't really even poked my nose in Merlin fandom except to be recced fics. I'm not sure I actually want to get involved - it might be one more of those fandoms where I just like to read and that's it.

I've actually had a lot of time writing anything Not AU because of the ending of Reload-- I think I'll be back once Blast takes off, but I still want to see how the dynamic's changed. There was more of a 'back to normal' feel at the end of Saiyuki, and Reload just ended and...yeah.

Supernatural is really hard not to get caught up in. I am not sure why it is so compelling, except that I really dig fantasy/supernatural stuff. Plus the over-the-top angst floats my boat as well. >_> And Dean, such a hottie. (Sam isn't my type. >_>)

I tend to intensely like one thing at a time as well. I enjoy Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicles and Dogs (Haine and Badou... and OMG I heart their totally screwed-up mentally and emotionally, psychotic selves so much), but have no desire to write for them. Saiyuki is pretty much floating my boat in the biggest way. I want answers from that tease Minekura!!

From: [identity profile] louiselux.livejournal.com
For me, it's the foaming tidal waves of gay incest angst in Spn - it's just so addictive. But I don't want to write it. It doesn't get me the way some fandoms do, where I just have to write stuff. Saiyuki is totally the opposite. Oh Minekura. <3 We are going to be her bitches for approximately ever. I love her.

What's Dogs, if I may ask?

Date: 2009-09-24 05:13 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] avierra.livejournal.com
Dogs is a manga by Miwa Shirow that takes place in a post-apocalyptic world. There are 4 protagonists. (Supposedly-- but the main focus is on Haine Rammsteiner, who is a person who has been experimented upon, with the result that he is effectively unkillable. There is some hinting that the experimentation was done for military purposes; Haine seemingly represents the highest form of the experiment. The scientist who experimented upon him subjected him and others to all sorts of mental and physical torture as children, with the result that Haine is extremely mentally unstable. The "dog" refers to the beast in Haine that sometimes escapes his control in times of stress.) He and his partner, the also very damaged Badou Nails, fight crime together, since they are looking to find and reclaim children who have been experimented upon, as well as others who might be able to tell them more about the experiments and who ordered them and so on.

The other two protagonists are an ex-assassin (Mihai) and a quietly lethal young swordswoman (Naoto). The four of them act and react together in various ways. Badou sort of functions as the glue who holds everyone together-- he is effective in his own way, but not up to the level of the others.

The artwork is very spare, but I love the snark and the exploration of the relationships-- Mihai is much older and acts as something of a mentor to the others; Badou and Haine fight crime together and deny they have "that sort" of relationship (although they are known around town as White Hair and Cyclops); Naoto reluctantly works with the rest of them to avenge the death of her family (and she and Haine are at each others throats with Badou in the middle between them).

It's just wonderful, and I eagerly await each new chapter. :)

Here's a link that pretty much perfectly sets up the tone of HainexBadou :D Haine and Badou (http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c246/saintelmosacid/ae_dogs-bNc-ch02-024.jpg)

Saiyuki is my first, last and always fandom. ALthough I have dabbled outside the comfort zone into Samurai 7 and GetBackers. Being in the sparkly ghei world of boybandery is something new to me. And when I first started down its slippery slope the feeling that I've somehow betrayed something in myself was a little niggle at the back of my mind. Eventually I got over it. ^_^ It's good to evolve into other things and some people let go of the other things ... some hang on to a few. I don't think leaving the Saiyuki fandom will ever happen for me
