"A beautiful wholesome bag, designed to put you in mind of innocent youthfulness, log cabins on grassy mountainsides, and Grandfather."

All the time I was making this I was thinking of that BBC childrens tv series that was possibly made in alliance with some Swiss tv company, and Heidi was an adorable curly haired moppet with a piercing voice. My mental notes on Heidi go: Heidi - is shipped away to (or poss from? or both?) log cabin on grassy moutainside with Grandfather. Grandfather dies? Other plot points - don't know. Ending - don't know.

Eee, Heidi!

There were goats, and a boy. Possibly only one goat. And bad dubbing. Heidi meant that The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn had finished running. Someone might have been called Clara.

Um. That's about all I can remember. Someone might have been disabled, but learned to walk again through the Power of Friendship?

Evil Aunt to Heidi back to the city to live where poor Heidi started to sleepwalk. Apparently this was a result o her unhappiness.

Since Heidi was so lovely and everyone wanted to see her smile again ... Clara's papa decided it was high time the family went to the Alps for a holiday. The fresh air would do everyone some good.

Clara was 'disabled' with a wheelchair. Poor little jealous Peter the Goatherd -afraid that they would all take Heidi away from Grandfather and him again - pushed the wheelchair off a mountain and Clara had to learn to walk and all was fine and dandy again. Heidi didn't have to leave the mountains and they all lived happily ever after ... or somesuch.

There were a few goats, lots of milk and cheese.

It was mere moral laziness (caused by living in a city) that underlay Clara's inability to walk. See Clara climb the alps! Climb, Clara, climb!

i used to watch this with my sister before getting ready for brownies (involving my purely brilliant impression of huckleberry finn while the cuffs of my uniform were still unbuttoned). i occasionally still think shudderingly about fraulein rottenmeier. *fear*

That is such a gorgeous bag! ♥ I've actually just looked at all your other pieces and they're all equally stunning, I especially love the Countries of the World one :D

Nobody dies in Heidi. Everyone learns to love goatsmilk and goatscheese and wearing scratchy goatswoollenknittedsockens and the wholesomeness of yodelling.

In the sequels, Heidi marries Peter the goatsherd.

Mind you, the sequels were fanfic, written by Joanna Spiri's translator, right?

Man. I've ALWAYS been into fanfic.

Heidi - is shipped away to (or poss from? or both?)

Both! She goes to live with Grandfather, then is shipped to Interlaken to learn to become a Young Lady, then gets ill (probably consumption - every young lady delicately wasted away from consumption back then) then is shipped back to Grandfather, where she becomes healthy again! Then she becomes a teacher and marries Peter (a goatherd) and they live happily ever after. On a mountainside, surrounded by goats.

OMFG.

Did you make this for you? Or do you make them to sell? Because I would SO buy this!

(Why yes, my wee sister is in fact named Heidi, because when I was nine years old and my mum was pregnant with wee sister, I was reading the sequels ['Heidi Grows Up' and 'Heidi's Children'] written by Joanna Spiri's translator.)

...fuck. It is only just this moment striking me that my wee sister is named Heidi BECAUSE I WAS READING (authorised, published) HEIDI FANFIC AT THE TIME.

Ahem. So, yeah - if this isn't something you're selling - how did you make it? Because this combines two of my favourite things. (And I'm pretty sure that I used to have that very edition, actually - being from a family of people who DON'T much read, I seem to have inherited quite a lot of books of the published-to-go-together-on-a-shelf-and-look-pretty-and-never-be-read variety. Which creep me out, rather. They're like Stepford Books, or something.)

[livejournal.com profile] i_am_zan had the most complete description.

But just to complete it -
it goes.

1. Evil Aunt brings Heidi to Grandpa at the Alps because she got new job
2. Grandpa fixes bed made of straw - and it looks up at a window (i would call it skylight but then...) where she can see the stars.
3. Heidi meets Peter and the goats and enjoys the day with her
4. After Heidi is fully settled, evil aunt returns to get her because Clara Stresseman (?) wanted a companion. Heidi soon sleepwalks scaring the people at the house. Also Heidi is getting thinner and all that. Still, she is nice to Clara, bringing her some cats.
5. Clara's dad and the doctor sit up and see Heidi sleepwalking.
the Doc convinces Clara's Dad to send Heidi back home since she is getting sicker.
6. the Doc brings Heidi back and becomes friends with grandpa
7. they winter at the town instead of the alps
8. clara goes to the alps
9. jealous peter pushes her chair down the mountainside
but instead of forcing clara to go home, clara becomes stronger drinking the milk of snow... (cant remember the goat's name) - grandpa tells peter to let the goat eat stuff that she likes, and for peter to give her special stuff
10. even peter gets to study.

the end.

i love this heidi bag.
you dont accept credit cards? for some stupid reason, my pay pal is giving me problems. *sigh* and i live in the Philippines.... ah well. i'll just tell my classmate to checkout your site (she lives in the UK)

Suddenly all of Heidi comes flooding back with this blow by blow account!

Hmmmm, it should accept credit cards if you're doing it through paypal. Maybe it's some temporary prob with Paypal? That's kind of odd. I know that they were updated some of the checkout stuff on Etsy yesterday, so maybe that could be the reason?

There might be some way we can work something out, if you really would want a bag. I'm just trying to think of ways. There is always a money order, which you would wire to me and I would pick up at this end. I would think the Philippines postal service would offer that, or companies like Western Union.

hmmm - i dont know about our post office.
i hate paypal... still, i guess i can send another inquiry letter to paypal...

we have western union here so i can ask too.

it'll take a while til i find out.
