Wot I made this week
Oct. 31st, 2009 05:21 pmMy new product development! Mills and Boon wallets o'romance. I'm really pleased how these turned out, although the vinyl is a real bitca to sew. Thank you ,
toscas_kiss, for the lend of the special grabber foot. Total lifesaver.

And an Agatha Christie:

I also found some awesome mouldy paperbacks today, all old Sherlock Holmes covers that have a bit of potential. One of them shows Holmes gripping a cock in one hand, round the neck.
Also, I might (no, I mean, I AM going to) be doing nano tomorrow with
emungere. We have a plan! Sort of.

i am a bit worried about the shipping here.

Date: 2009-11-03 11:14 am (UTC)Shipping to Manila would take about 5 days. I'd send it airmail, otherwise we're looking at a 1-2 month delivery time.
I haven't actually made the pleasured wallet yet, but it would be 13 uk pounds.
Thanks for you interest! :)

Date: 2009-11-01 04:46 pm (UTC)I have an Etsy shop here, where they can be bought. I also do commissions privately or through the shop, depending on if I know the person or not.
They're relatively easy to make, as long as you have the much-prized teflon foot for your machine, otherwise sewing vinyl will just make you cry. I have a grabber foot that does just as well - it has a wee roller to grab slippery materials and feed it along the dogs. Once the vinyl is sewn to the cover, then it's a matter of making a lining - mine is a really simple pattern of two pockets, one each side, below. The hardest part is keeping everything straight and neat looking.
Then add a loop of elastic and a button for the closure (or a popper or velcro or whatever you want to use. I finally attach the cover to the lining using super strong permanent adhesive.

Date: 2009-11-01 04:48 pm (UTC)I cut the vinyl to size then sew it on to the cover. I can only do this because I have a special foot for my machine which copes with slippery fabric. I tried it without and the vinyl just sticks in the machine.

You sure it's not a badly-drawn goose, as one appears in The Adventure of the Blue Carbuncle...
