Back from the northern lands. [livejournal.com profile] connotations was great. It felt a little different this year, maybe because there were slightly fewer people attending, but I really liked it. As usual I failed at attending many panels and instead maximised my walking on the beach/lounging about/fangirling/drinking times. Bliss.

I spent Saturday morning walking in the sparkling clean sea in the sunshine with [livejournal.com profile] new_kate, then we sat on the sand and drank lattes and really had a focussed discussion about how pretty everyone on Merlin is, especially Bradley James and his awesome haircut. Then we went back down to the beach again on Sunday, where me, [livejournal.com profile] new_kate, [livejournal.com profile] daegaer and [livejournal.com profile] mandragora1 had giant muffins in the cafe there. Saturday night we all got Moderately Tidy (with some stunning dresses and dramatic decolletage!) and had a special Park Hotel meal. "Special".

I do love the Park Hotel - it never learns its lesson somehow. I asked the waitress on Friday night if there was a vegetarian option. I wondered if she'd ever been asked this before from her blank look. "There's... veggies," she said. Um, yeah. Also, our bathroom ceiling lifted off its frame every time we opened the door and the hot water for our shower was missing. I managed to keep my thin summer sundress on at all times despite its being autumn in northern Britain, because the hotel likes to keep its temperature setting at 'heatwave'.

Things that got pimped at me that I want to follow up: Charlie Jade, Psyche, something [livejournal.com profile] fides showed us at about 4am that has got 'State' in the title. Also saw the first episode of Flash Forward, which looks v much like a replacement for Lost. Oh yeah, and I want to investigate the read it swap it website, which [livejournal.com profile] graculus pointed me at.

Also, I decided on the beach that nanowrimo is ON this year. ON in big flashing red letters. It will help me focus back on writing and set time aside to do it every day. *fisty pump of determination* I need to think about what to do.

The State Within? Jason Isaacs?

That was pimped 2 years ago - I joined loads of communities, but *still* haven't got around to watching it...

I missed you! Please tell me you had enough fun for me as well, because none of it filtered down here...

Aww, *hug*. It was a real shame you couldn't come. There was even a third bed in our room you could have had. I don't think the hotel staff would have even noticed the extra person. We had fuuuuun. It was so good to just hang out, but I think [livejournal.com profile] daegaer really needed someone to squee about Hetalia with.

So did I! Polking Wikipedia just isn't the same :(

(And you got muffins & lattes. I got kitten farts and burnt pizza. Bah!)

Was it a kitten fart pizza? I bet Heston Blumenthal would think that was a good idea.

And...you left before the shiny new announcement about the shiny new hotel for next year!

Next year the con will be at the Marriott Hotel in Durham. All 4 stars of it. Including the swimming pool, gym and jacuzzi. Oh, and the goldfish in the lobby. *g*

So, yeah, it was the last time at the Park Hotel. Sounds as if you might actually miss it (I shall certainly miss the beach, but shall go to the Cathedral instead) but think what fun we'll all have reminiscing over the Park horror stories...from the comfort of our lovely, clean, sparkling hotel rooms.

Shall email you soon regarding bags. Yummy bags.

OH MY GOD!

*faints*

Oh, oh, goodbye crazy Park Hotel! Goodbye! Wow. I shall truly miss the gorgeous beach, but am prepared to accept a jacuzzi as replacement.

Yes, do get in touch about bags! I'm v excited about this.

When [livejournal.com profile] moonlettuce made the announcement there was a Mighty Cheer, as if millions of fangirls had all squeed out at once. Especially when she got to the bit about the pool, jacuzzi and hot tub!

Oh, how I wish I had been there! I didn't get your text until the day after. Jacuzzi!! Actual nice food! Have you ever been to Durham? The cathedral is absolutely stunning.

Glad you had a good time.

And yay! about the new hotel - with a pool even. I think next year I'm just going to have to make the time and dosh.

Can send you some Psyche. It's a fun watch.

I'll see if I can download it off dramatic eps first, save you the bother, but if not I'd love to see it.

Yay next year! It sounds amazing, especially after 5 years of Park Hotel special fail.

Ok. That's where mine are from. Sing out if you have problems or it's taking too long.

Looking forward to it already. :-)

It was so good. I fail at going to panels and having serious discussions, but there's usually just so much to talk about anyway, just sitting around on the sofas. It's a balm to the soul.
