We're finally giving in and getting cable tv with phone and broadband as a package. Virgin Media have quite a good deal. I was wondering if anyone is with Virgin Media, and are they okay?

I would say they are as good as any other. For every person who has a good story, someone will have a bad one.

We've had ok service, they've come out on time when needed (reception problems, council grass cutter cutting our cable - gah), we've negotiated better deals every now and then. They do cap the internet, and I'm not happy about this latest jape http://www.theregister.co.uk/2009/12/07/detica_visit/
But then they're all at it in one way or another (see Phorm)

We have the Virgin Media broadband and tv package and they're pretty good. They're also usually quite prompt with fixing any problems that go awry as well.

I have Virgin Media and they're...interesting. I didn't have a choice when I signed up almost a year ago, and now they have me trapped in a contract until June at the earliest. I've had problems (TV wouldn't work, phone line got crossed with a neighbour...) and they tend to fix them quite quickly, because I know the Magical Phrase that makes Virgin Media care ("I would like you to make a note of this on my file, as I have been having several problems lately, and if they persist I will consider breaking my contract on grounds of non-provision of agreed services"). So, for example, when I rang up to explain that my phone line had been crossed with a neighbour's, they had someone out that day, whereas the neighbour in question had to wait two weeks for someone to come out and deal with their problem, which they had then resolved by...crossing the neighbour's line with mine. (Yes, that is how it happened.) They also skipped the first appointment they had with the neighbour, without notifying them, even though they had taken time off work and waited around the house.

Oh, they're fine, you know? Annoying unannounced online TV upgrades, occasional weird outages, but the vast majority of the time we have TV and broadband. Which is kind of the point.

We have Virgin but after constant problems with the billing department, we've dropped the phone/broadband parts of the package and changed to BT who we're much happier with.

The main problems were with billing and customer service and we might be one of the unlucky but honestly, I wouldn't recommend them.

I was with Virgin since they used to be Telewest (no longer with them as I moved house and the new one already had internet), and didn't really have much of a problem. We got an offer where having TV included in our phone and net package was cheaper than it was just having the two, and they were always prompt and helpful on the phones. I'd be slightly hesitant to go back, as they started capping the internet between 6pm and midnight, so if you'd downloaded more than a gigabyte or so at any point during that time you'd be put on dialup speeds which absolutely sucked! But then, we were a house of three, all interested in downloading things, so it would be fine for anyone who doesn't torrent much. There were a couple of random outages, but there's an automated phone service to confirm that there is a problem, and they're pretty speedy at fixing it. Overall, they were good, apart from the internet capping.

Hmm, the capping doesn't sound so great, I'm going to look into what they say in their contract about that. Ta for the info, it's really useful!

we've had virgin for about 5 years and it's always been pretty good - at least the broadband has. we've had some problems with the tv off and on but i've not really cared all that much. i don't think our internet is capped or maybe we don't download enough for it to matter? neither of use torrents although we both stream loads. basically i don't understand how the internet works: NOT NEWS.

I don't understand it really either. As long as I can download the brothertouch diaries once a week and watch MOYLIN on the iplayer now and then I am fine.

I think we are gonna go with them! There is always the temptation to get eurosport though, and then I could have Jason Goodall in my sitting room! In that regard, it would be remarkable.
