We had a flying visit from [livejournal.com profile] new_kate last night, who swooped into Reading at 11.30pm like some sort of New Year's Eve ninja! It was so exciting! It was great to spend time talking about our goings on and fandom. She's gone back Up North now, and I've been pottering about all day doing things like sorting out my accounts, watching some tennis and eating pasta.

Dr Who thoughts - I yelped with joy at the cameos from Russell Tovey and Jessica Stephenson! Overall, it was gripping and my inner shallows appreciated the prettiness of John Simm immensely. It seemed to me that David Tennant's exit provided an excellent chance to reinvent who we think of as the Doctor. I've nothing against the new doctor except a sense of 'been there, done that'.

Yuletide reveal! I wrote an 11,500 Melusine fic: Cast our Fevers in Stone, which is Felix/Mildmay by way of a ghost story, and I'm very proud of it. The idea of working with these characters terrified me but the writing of it turned into a joy. A huge thank you to [livejournal.com profile] tarteaucitron, who encouraged me and cheered me on, and to [livejournal.com profile] emungere who as always was wise and kind and helped me thrash out plot details, and to [livejournal.com profile] tarteaucitron, [livejournal.com profile] emungere and [livejournal.com profile] daegaer for last minute beta services. Thank you!

I had two stories written for me, the author of one of which was INCREDIBLY OBVIOUSLY [livejournal.com profile] daegaer! Funky Robot Tennis RPS. It's wonderful and awesome and is exactly tailored to my specific brand of crazy ♥

Crying and other impossible feats by smartie1685 is an adorable Bradley James/Colin Morgan RPF. Thank you!

Oh my, I heart your Felix/Mildmay story so much. Now I wonder about the ghosts and their motivations, and what Felix and Mildmay do to put them to rest and save the island. And what theya re going to do about the huge storms that are ruining coastline. And I like too that it is set after Corambis, so that there is absolutely no hint of the Obligation d'Ame in them finally deciding to get together: it is because both of them want that, and that they are at such a place of quality in their relationship that it seems almost natural. (Finally!!!)

Mmmmmmmm. Mildmay. I must say, you have divine taste in icons, my dear!

Thank you! I really wanted for them to be, or more importantly to feel like, they were equals, and I really hope that came through. To me it seemed like they got a long way towards that by the end of Corambis. I don't think Felix would take advantage of his power over Mildmay again - by the end of Corambis it seems like he's figured out that making passes at Mildmay wouldn't make him happy at all.

Also, all I know about the ghosts is that they were human sacrifices made by the people who built the original temple site that the tower now stands on. I wish I knew more! :) And also what Felix is going to do about the storms and the coastal erosion.

I'm so glad you enjoyed it - it was awesome fun to write!

Yes it really did come through (actually, where it says "quality" in my comment, it should have said "equality." I fail at typing. ;_;

Well, it sounds as if you have quite a lot to work with, if the spirit should move you to write more.... /whistles in a shifty fashion

i need to craft a proper comment/rec on your yuletide fic. it seemed disingenuous before the reveal, but now it's completely kosher, right?

I have that Melusine fic in an open tab! I'm dithering over whether to read it before Corambis comes out in paperback - are there huge spoilers for anything particularly shocking?

Arrgh, dilemma! I did as much as possible to make it non-spoilery for Corambis, and I don't think it is apart from actually where they are living. There's nothing specifically spoilery about the Corambis plot.
