THE MILK WAS SOUR.

I must find a way to appease the porridge gods.

Perfect porridge, with cream and brown sugar, is such a wonderful comfort food, but it is fraught with perils. All I know is NEVER use instant oats. (Or soul milk, or asplody porridge like you had yesterday...)

It is Obvious ... you must write porn for porridge!!! Or would that be Porridge Porn! ^_~

Hakkai tries to make Gojyo breakfast and for some reason ... everything is against him and thus no porridge ... BUT he really really WANTS porridge and he wants Gojyo to have some too! Gojyo has a hidden secret that one of the things that he actually can do well is that he can make really yummy, sweet and creamy porridge because Jien taught him and they used to eat that together in those in between pockets of peace. So he makes teah for Hakkai and tells him to sit down and chill for the moment as he has to get some things. Unbeknownst to Hakkai he is actually planning to make the perfect porridge because Hakkai really only knows how to make the sticky, icky gruel that the sisters used to make at the orphanage!

Hakkai slightly melancholic from his lack of success sips at his tea and falls into a doze. He wakes to hear Gojyo's whistling in the kitchen. He wanders into the kitchen, there are a few stray crystals of demerara sugar and flakes of oats on the counter top, a carton of milk, and the cinnamon is out. A whisk, sticky with milk sits next to a milk pan.

But there on the table are two bowls, steam rising from them and spoons next to them.

"C'mon then. Brunch is served!" Gojyo announces cheerfully. "Im sorry I didn't want to wake ya," he continued sheepishly so it's brunch now."
"We can have toast after and ... you know," he scratches his head sheepishly, antenna waving wildly, "we can go back to bed".

...

...,
..... porn ensues. And they all lived long enough for Sanzo to come knocking on the door with Goku in tow saying they needed to haul ass to India.

The ENd!

Sorry I have no idea where that came from! Demented brain is obviously demented! ^_^ *hugs* you have a good day now ok!

I knew an old horse trainer in Victoria who made it with water, in the microwave. I definitely prefer the milky version!!

Me too, I never even knew you could make it with just water. It sounds too spartan for me.

I cook it with water and then add the milk afterwards.

Bleeee!

Make it with water with a bit of salt in, then add a spoonful of sugar / honey / maple syrup and cinnamon or nutmeg to taste :)

(Unless you were my Gran, in which case it was with half a salt cellar and no sweetener or spice at all. And yet her heart was fine when her brain gave up in her 90s...)

Well, seeing as you've given me the recipe I shall try it to see what it's like... But I have to say water porridge just doesn't sound right to me.

when all you brits say 'porridge', does it mean oatmeal?

*is an ignorant yank*

This is one of those circular questions, a bit like asking someone else to describe a colour. I think porridge may be oatmeal but I can't be sure. I think we need a US/British breakfast translator.

let us ask the mighty wikipedia!

Porridge is a dish made by boiling oatmeal (rolled, crushed, or steel cut oats) or sometimes another cereal in water, milk, or both.

yep, that's oatmeal. (what americans call oatmeal anyway)

Porridge is made with rolled oats. Porage (pronounced the same) is made with unrolled oats, and needs to be boiled for weeks before it's edible :)

(Mum's from Edinburgh and occasionally gets very Scottish about things!)
