This is one of those circular questions, a bit like asking someone else to describe a colour. I think porridge may be oatmeal but I can't be sure. I think we need a US/British breakfast translator.

Porridge is a dish made by boiling oatmeal (rolled, crushed, or steel cut oats) or sometimes another cereal in water, milk, or both.

Aha! Served with sugar or salt, and today I was experimenting with using cinammon, until it all went to hell.
