No, no, you're totally right. I'm doing zooarchaeology now though, mostly. Dead animals. But at least they're very dead and therefore not actually squishy and otherwise gross? *g* (And it probably weirds less people out than the whole digging up dead people thing, which I did for a few years...)
Just very dead. Not quite that far back. The people were from about 700-800 AD, Anglo-Saxon. Most of the animal bone at the moment is from more like 3000 BC, so... thoroughly dead. From a site in Iraq.
It's one of those things which didn't actually seem that weird at the time, somehow. It's really different to dealing with animal bone, obviously, but... hm. I'm not even sure how to explain. *laughs*
