I was just sitting here watching the crows shouting at each other and then flying off together. Mating, I thought. Sounds like a fun way to spend an afternoon. But I really had no idea what they were doing. They could have been fighting. I don't know. I never will. It was one of those moments of realisation that seem to expand until they fill your head. Anyway...

I read Saiyuki Reload 6 this morning on the train. So good. It made me laugh at loud several times, specially the Zakuro bit. I always forget how funny Saiyuki is.

Oh Hakkai! Getting to a stage where he can even think of just being a normal guy, even if his wife does have to be indestructible. I thought that was a lovely bit of translation. That whole scene with him and Gojyo on the bridge just breaks my heart- what they both say, coupled with Hakkai's body language at the end.

Also, I loved just about everything in this volume: Sanzo collapsing on Goku, the wheel of sutras, Hakkai running off after Gojyo and Goku in order to 'make sure they're safe', or, as we find out later, drink vast quantities of alcohol. Anything Hazel says or does.

Something I missed during the fan translation: Ukoku bought Hazel's power out - Hazel's power over life. Which I thought before must be a sutra and isn't that what Sanzo realises early on, after the sutra conversation he has with the rest of the ikkou? So Hazel's sutra is the one that's unnaccounted for and which Ni needs to complete the resurrection of Gyumaoh. Random conjecture!

It's funny because when I bought the 6th volume, my first reaction was tch. I just need volume 7, this is filler. But after the first few pages, I was soo in love with this volume!! Everything you mentioned especially the Hakkai/Gojyo bridge scene, Sanzo collapsing on Goku, Zakuro, Hazel, and a few others that I really enjoyed was Hakkai being blunt with Hazel, Hakkai pulling a MacGuyver from nowhere and picking the lock, and damn Sanzo looks smexy with a sword. Okay, well, he looks smexy again. LOL I hadn't forgotten how skilled Sanzo priests are with weapons. Mmmm, would love to see Ukoku is a sword fight with Genjyo.

I like the sutra idea with Hazel but I guess only time will tell. After all, there could be an inscription on Hazel's Star of David that works kinda like the Ring of Power in Lord of the Rings. A sutra doesn't necessarily have to be in paper does it?

The bluntness was awesome, as was the Macgyver moment and Sanzo showing off his sword skills. He's pretty fit for someone who only ever seems to sit in a chair.

It's a good point about sutras. I've no idea if they have to be written on paper - in theory any surface might work.
