I was just sitting here watching the crows shouting at each other and then flying off together. Mating, I thought. Sounds like a fun way to spend an afternoon. But I really had no idea what they were doing. They could have been fighting. I don't know. I never will. It was one of those moments of realisation that seem to expand until they fill your head. Anyway...

I read Saiyuki Reload 6 this morning on the train. So good. It made me laugh at loud several times, specially the Zakuro bit. I always forget how funny Saiyuki is.

Oh Hakkai! Getting to a stage where he can even think of just being a normal guy, even if his wife does have to be indestructible. I thought that was a lovely bit of translation. That whole scene with him and Gojyo on the bridge just breaks my heart- what they both say, coupled with Hakkai's body language at the end.

Also, I loved just about everything in this volume: Sanzo collapsing on Goku, the wheel of sutras, Hakkai running off after Gojyo and Goku in order to 'make sure they're safe', or, as we find out later, drink vast quantities of alcohol. Anything Hazel says or does.

Something I missed during the fan translation: Ukoku bought Hazel's power out - Hazel's power over life. Which I thought before must be a sutra and isn't that what Sanzo realises early on, after the sutra conversation he has with the rest of the ikkou? So Hazel's sutra is the one that's unnaccounted for and which Ni needs to complete the resurrection of Gyumaoh. Random conjecture!

Hazel has a sutra??? I thought that the power was what the medallion was and not sutra related, just a different kind of power. Hmmm maybe I better read it again, then again our translations may be a little different from the tokyopop version. Maybe I should go pick up the US version???

But yes the bit on the bridge is heartbreaking. Right down to the part where he says one of the things he will have to worry about is his daughter having a crush on Uncle Gojyo! ^___^ So much I *really hearts this*

I fall more in love with the dorky-but-thinks-he's-cool Zakuro every time he shows up. XD

And I hadn't thought about the possible Hazel/sutra connection, but it makes a lot of sense.

Not reading. Just stopping by to complain about *$$*ing Amazon.co.uk and their "Another 10 days" email. Argh!

Hey, you're in the UK, aren't you? Where do you get your Saiyuki from? Is there a decent (cheap? she asked hopefully) supplier?

Ah, Hazel sutra! Interesting. Oh, very interesting. I hadn't thought about that at all. So is Hazel a heretical foreign sanzo? Very interesting. Curse you for distracting me. XD

[And. And. Zakuro. Gah. I love him so much for the way he's translated. XD]

I'm working from memory of scans here (haven't got around to buying 5 or 6 yet), but I thought what Sanzo realizes after the conversation about the sutras is that Ukoku's involved. Wasn't part of the conversation about how only a Sanzo priest would know about the powers the sutras have and would be able to wield them? Which means a Sanzo priest is involved, and Sanzo already knows Ukoku is trouble.

Hazel's obviously a big fan of Ukoku, so I doubt Ukoku'd have much problem getting a sutra from him if that's what he needed for the resurrection.

It's funny because when I bought the 6th volume, my first reaction was tch. I just need volume 7, this is filler. But after the first few pages, I was soo in love with this volume!! Everything you mentioned especially the Hakkai/Gojyo bridge scene, Sanzo collapsing on Goku, Zakuro, Hazel, and a few others that I really enjoyed was Hakkai being blunt with Hazel, Hakkai pulling a MacGuyver from nowhere and picking the lock, and damn Sanzo looks smexy with a sword. Okay, well, he looks smexy again. LOL I hadn't forgotten how skilled Sanzo priests are with weapons. Mmmm, would love to see Ukoku is a sword fight with Genjyo.

I like the sutra idea with Hazel but I guess only time will tell. After all, there could be an inscription on Hazel's Star of David that works kinda like the Ring of Power in Lord of the Rings. A sutra doesn't necessarily have to be in paper does it?
