Saiyuki story by new_kate: Errand - another take on how Gonou got his limiters. I want to describe it as gut wrenching but that's a bit of an unfortunate term to use about Gonou. Oh, whatever. It's very good indeed. :)

The Great Cucumber Scam is that PG Wodehouse/Saiyuki crossover I wrote where Bertie Wooster's new fiance turns out to be a crossdressing confidence trickster who tries to persuade Bertie to invest in his string of South Seas cucumber plantations. He is after Bertie's money (and also his butler. Fortunately it all ends happily when a passing priest catches the fiance red handed and de-frocks him. Meanwhile, Bertie's long lost (and slightly deranged) cousin arrives and moves in with them, causing Jeeves to threaten to leave.

Hakkai and Gojyo have lived together for a year, when Sanzo demands that they track down the gang of thieves who stole his hairdresser's cousin's grandmother's life savings. The adventure turns into a long convoluted journey where Gojyo and Hakkai leanr how much they need each other, and they also hone their badass fighting skills on each other to pass the time.

It was such a touching tale - particularly when Goyjo discovered he was allergic to chamomile and Hakkai went to beat up the hairdresser's cousin's grandmother to console him!

A short, not entirely happy story that even so manages to offer an uplifting message by the end. It's about Hakkai and self imposed punishments that are not really punishments - he scrubs the floor with a nailbrish and it takes him a day, he washes both his and Gojyo's clothes by hand until his fingers are wrinkly, he takes the long way round and does everything as best as he can, just because he is alive and is able to. Gojyo watches and it takes him a while to understand, and he doesn't offer to help at fort because he doesn't want to and then because he does but guesses that Hakkai needs to do it by himself.

A long fic about how Gojyo and Hakkai's friendship develops and the odd, sweet closeness they share even though they are so different. The plot involves them carrying out a job for Sanzo, where both Gojyo and Hakkai comes off fairly badly. They help each other get better and stronger.
