I like Pet Shop of Horrors, after reading vol 1. The art is sweet and very very cute. Count D is quite bizarre and seems to really enjoy doling out dangerous 'pets' and with them a list of instructions for care that involves at least one hard to keep, if not impossible, thing, like 'don't let anyone see your enormous new pet basilisk.' I think he's got a wicked sense of humour under his power bob.

The first couple of books are a little fluffier than the rest of the series, though he's still adorable all the way through. Those times he isn't being downright creepy and inhuman that is. I have books 1 - 5, do you want me to bring them Friday?

Yes please! That's be great. And I'll email you about Friday with important questions do you want to come with us to elbow small children aside at the midnight Harry Potter sale? Also, minor things like how to get to my house etc :)

Shall do!
LOL! I forgot it was that day. I'll have to check the train timetables.

I love D so much. I felt after the-- maybe second or third volume?-- the story got much, much better, too; it starts evolving out of the 'bad pet of the week' storylines.

Mmm, I'm a bit sick of the bad pet of the week storyline already, so that's good news. The killer rabbits were rather funny though.

The killer rabbits were love. And yeah, it gets better. Once Leon's younger brother shows up it's all uphill fast, and it has one of the most satisfying endings I've ever seen in a manga.

I read it all over the weekend! What a great ending. I think it means Leon went off to look for D and never came back.

I want to see the new series, but I'm a little worried it won't live up to the beauty of that ending.

Oh, I love PSOH! I've got some PSOH recs on my site, but most of them will make a lot more sense if you've read at least to the end of volume 5.

Oooh goody, I'd love to read fic for this series. The D/Leon appeals, partly because they're so impossible together.

Muahahaha *ggg*.

Oh, I'm so pleased. So really, really pleased. Yes, it does pick up after vol 4 - and then you'll get to see the lovely Count D interacting with... oh, but I'll leave you to discover it all yourself *eg*.

His sense of humour is indeed wicked. There's a lot more to him than first meets the eye.

I love him to bits :-D.

Yay! Awesome series-- one of my very favourites after Saiyuki, I think. I devoured all 10 volumes last week and over the weekend and-- arrgh, what a fabulous ending. What do you think happened?

what a fabulous ending

Ending? What is this ending you speak of? *eg* All I see is the first volume of series 2...

(Admittedly it's only published in Japanese atm, and it's nice to have and hold but scanlations are a fangirls best friend. *sigh* Now I have to find the scanlations, don't I? *g* Knew you'd say that. I'll have a dig through the files, dear.)

*g*

Yaaay! Thank you-- scans would be awesome.

I would ask you more about it, but I'd like to be kept in suspense a little bit longer.

PSoH is definitely in my top 3 favorite manga series. Like mistressrenet noted, it fleshes out toward the end with D's character becoming even more intriguing and the story itself darker and, IMHO, more hypnotic. And there's even some cute Leon/D scenes that will make a person wonder if there aren't some unrequited feelings there.

Once you finish the series, if you haven't read Unwilling Sleep it's highly, highly recommended. It's also full of spoilers for the entire series so fair warning :)

Thanks for the rec - it looks v good from what I've read so far.

I think I can see the unrequited D/Leon, even though Leon is clearly obsessed with women (too obsessed- a case of him protesting too much?)

He's so well groomed it's scary. I love it that he's so upset when he breaks a nail, and Leon always calls his dress a, well, dress. *g*

don't let anyone see your enormous new pet basilisk.

Isn't he fabulous? I mean, come on, people, wise up! (But I have to admit that for the plot of the series it's a good thing they don't...)

*snerk* Yeah. If only they knew the trouble D is going to cause them.

I'll just chime in on the PSoH love. It's such an awesome little series. And I was ecstatic to discover that the mangaka has started a sequel series, of which I now own the first volume. It's excellent.

Series sequel?!?

SQUEEEEE!

Is it Leon and D? Or you-know-who from the end of book 10? [identities obfuscated to prevent spoilers]

Is it good? I've only found the first two chapters translated online and I was worried, as I love the first series' ending far too much.

I read it all last week - very, very enjoyable. I'm thrilled there's a sequel-- what's it called?

Actually, it's called "Shin Petshop of Horrors" (New Petshop of Horrors). Terribly original. Want me to pick up a copy for you before I leave? I can hand it off at Worldcon.

PSoH is one of the best manga series ever. It gets even better around vol. 3 or 4, and then after Leon's brother comes in, it's truly excellent. And oh, the ending! It's a great series. Much love for PSoH. <3 I need a D icon.

It's great - I've read it all now and have really enjoyed it. I really enjoyed the ending. What do you think happens in the end? Leon finds D again?
