May. 29th, 2003 05:01 pmBBC, you are showing Buffy tonight. Well done. There is now no need for me to come over there and bash you in with a shovel.
The interview went well, I thought, and afterwards we had a lovely time wandering about Birmingham looking at all the new buildings: the Bull Ring has completely transformed into a modern shiny place, literally. One of the new buildings is a sort of mirrored Baba Papa shape, and is very pretty. On part of it is still unfinished, so we could see the layering of fibreglass underneath. It's an enormous thing to build out of that material.
I was nervous, but only before the interview, not in it, even though, surprisingly, one of the interviwers was my old tutor. It's always hard being interviewed by someone you know: I acted as though he didn't know my skills or background at all, as I think that's the best way for everyone involved. Anyway, the job sounds wonderful, and I'm really keen. The only drawback, if I was offered the job, is it being in Brum, as M told me a few days ago that he was very worried about moving and having to start over somewhere new. I understand completely: I've never felt so settled as I do in our flat.
Work is hell: the office move I am organising seems to be taking up unnecessary amounts of my day and everyone wants something they can't have, mostly because there's no money to pay for it. There comes a time when you have to stop explaining why and start telling people that that's just the way things are. And the cooling system has broken down, so we are all basking in a balmy 25C.

I'm tempted to put my name down for another challenge at the SBRL fest, the one about them being mated for life and not wanting it. It might be fun to turn a few other fandom cliches on their heads along the way.

Date: 2003-05-30 02:12 am (UTC)lie effectivelybest put forward your strengths? :-) One fellow in my department was going for one of the rare full time positions, and had to deal with the interviewers and assorted observers (yeesh) all knowing him and commenting on the fact he as wearing a new suit and new shoes. Argh!Do you know when you'll hear back from them? Even if it means a move, it might be better than being driven mad in your current job.

Date: 2003-05-30 03:39 am (UTC)how can you lie effectively best put forward your strengths? :-)
Oh god, so true! Thankfully nobody made any comments about my suit. I should hear back from them this afternoon, or Monday at the latest. *gulps*
I saw your multiple posts on CA, and have only one thing to say: fish! I like your animal stories, you could do an entire zoo.
Re:
Date: 2003-05-30 04:25 am (UTC)Fish! Yes. Very odd. I have a strange mind, it seems. There may well be more animals in the offing, if inspiration strikes.
(And because I am intensely bad at remembering sensible things like time and days, I will be mailing you something this evening. It was supposed to be included with the good luck mail, but shall have to be a 'the interview was good' thing instead).
