Wtf tennis

The meaning hidden in this photograph confuses me, as I think it is meant to.

What is happening, we ask ourselves? Are we meant to be blinded by the single white cyclopean eye staring out at us over the void-like maw of the chimney that looks poised to swallow Rafa's chair, and Rafa himself? Why are Rafa and Nando both touching their left wrists. Are their crossed arm postures meant to signal their insecurity and human frailty, or are they merely itchy? What has Roger just said to make Rafa smile fondly from his slumped, submissive posture, to make Mandy glance up in shock, and to cause Nando's face to darken to a bullish glare? We will never know.

All the attention in the room is directed towards Roger-- even the cyclops seems to be looking wistfully his way-- entranced, alarmed, bored in turn, but in the end, his expression obscure and shrouded, he is only giving his attention to one thing - Rafa's knees.

The artistic vision of the ATP photographer knows no bounds.



This one simply defies all analysis. A success, I think.

Number 2 is clearly an informal portrait of their Majesties of the Tennis and their brood of children. Number 1 is kind of disturbing, especially the way Rafa's chair looks like a giant tongue.

The tongue belonging to the fireplace maw! It's all beginning to make sense! He's about to be sacrificed to the gods of tennis and the other three are saying their farewells. I love the hidden depths of tennis photography.

The Majesties of Tennis are certainly fertile! Which one is the mummy? Or do you think they take turns?

I think their Majesties take turns to be Mummy and spoil the royal children. Daddy is stern and terrifying. Or maybe it's the other way around?!

Perhaps that's not really Rafa in the picture, though, if he's been eaten by the fireplace of doom, like some sort of teind to tennis hell. Perhaps it's the Rafa-bot!!

I think Roger would make a very stern and terrifying mummy, especially when the brood steal all his many tubs of hair product.

Omg, the Rafabot! That's why he looks so happy - it's because of the successful infiltration of the group. I think Mandbot suspects though.
