Oh Rog, you enormous beautiful GOATiest waving dork <3333

They made him walk along a disturbingly rippled shimmery tunnel bearing the fruits of his labours! I bet Mirka really appreciated that imagery.

Oh the suit!

There's a sweet interview with Roger on the BBC, here, where the interviewer asks why he didn't show more emotion when he won. Roger says that he felt bad for Andy, likening it to the way Rafa felt bad for him at the AO and last year's Wimbledon. It must be a very odd and difficult experience, winning in such a comprehensively upsetting way for your colleagues. But still easier than losing, obvs.

I know a lot of people think Roger was an arse yesterday in his on-court interview. It was somewhat wince-inducing but I think he was genuinely trying to empathise with Andy.

This picture made me miss Rafa, a lot. The whole final and Rafa being no.2 again today has given me such pangs. I kind of wonder if he'll be on slam no 9 or 10 by this time next year.

Pigeon toes

Just... love

I think people might forget that although very fluent, English is not Roger's first language. He came off a bit...I'll use your "wince-enducing" but I totally got that he was trying really hard to be sensitive while at the same time being incredibly happy/excited/overwhelmed that he'd won something he'd worked so hard to regain.

Yeah, I think people have been pretty unfair to him over the whole thing and I'm not really sure why. I get the feeling there's some sort of backlash happening against him. So that sucks.

Oh dear, love the disco ball tucked into the greenery XD

I was *very* pleased he won... though a lot of that had to do with how happy I knew it'd make some of my f-list ♥

The disco ball is pure class. The Wimbledon Committee knows how to throw a party!

Awww! You were thinking of your tennis-obsessed fangirls! I am moved. :D

Whoa, the tunnel. That's horribly lurid and tacky. Especially the way it makes his suit glow purple, oh my....

I did get that Roger was trying not to bounce too excitedly and joyously all over Andy's grave, and that's why he was a bit halting. But I can also see why it could be read as him not caring all that much about winning. It's a tough situation to be put in after a match like that.

It's a weird situation to be in for both of them. I think that every slam ceremony I've seen has involved some overt drama and/or strange undercurrents. Of course, Roger's been in them all, so... Hmm. Not sure where I'm going with that. :D

I've read various folks harshing on both Roger and Andy since the end of the match, and I can't help wishing they'd cut both guys a break: if you were to ask me to come up with a flawless, pitch-perfect speech and/or responses in my fourth language -- or even my first -- after 4+ hours of multiple sprints and adrenalin surges x 77+, odds are I couldn't do it. Hell, I've managed to say tactless, graceless, and inappropriate things when put on the spot, even when I've had forewarning that I was about to walk into an awkward situation. :-(

On a happier note, love the pictures (especially the hug at the net), and the firsthand reports - thank you for sharing them!

Heh. Right! I think both of them were probably half zombified by that point - they seemed it. It seems harsh to expect them to be perfectly spoken and considered under those circumstances.

It's funny. When I saw that interview, I took his totally gratuitous words about Rafa to mean that he had *learnt* to feel bad for a beaten opponent from Rafa. Maybe that's just me though.

ION: that suit. God that suit. With Roger in it. *combusts*

That's exactly what I thought too! Oh lol. Like Rafa had taught him to be a better person.

I think that's one of the hottest suits Roger has ever worn. He looks divine.

That first pic need to be iconed. Who's idea was that. I hope no disco music was playing when he walked in.

Is that a disco ball as centerpiece? ***falls off chair*** Oh Wimbledon!
