Wimbledon final

Queing in the early morning, Henman Hill, sunburn, warm sticky Pimms, buckle_berry minimising her face against my shoulder, endless pointless jokes, tarteaucitron deafening me with screams, frustration, disbelief, feeling bad for Andy Roddick, boggling at the final score, seeing Roger on the balcony with Mirka patting his bum, everyone losing their minds at championship point, walking home alone along Wimbledon Park Road in the dusk.

Oh, sigh. This was just the most brilliant day.

Watching the replay highlights, the tennis was exceptional. Andy Roddick was amazing, but so was Roger. It was one of those matches where you wish they could walk to the net and agree to call it a draw. But I was so incredibly gratified to see Roger win this match. He didn't go away and neither did Andy Roddick didn't flinch for the longest time. But finally it seemed like physical stamina and nerve were the deciding factors, and Roger took his few chances where he could.

That match was just an amazing thing to watch, even if I did want to bite through the chair seats at some points from sheer frustration.

I wanted Roger to win (of course), but I did feel so sorry for Andy Roddick. I've never cared about him one way or the other before today, but he's improved his all round game so much, and he tried so hard, and he really didn't do anything wrong.

To do all that and still not be good enough must be soul-crushing. But oh, Roger's back at number one!

I think a lot of people felt bad for Andy, I know I did. They were both so good, all it took was a couple of errors for someone to lose, and frankly it didn't look like Roger was ever going to actually get tired.

It was kind of worrying, though - earlier in the fifth set it was looking like Roger was the one getting tired, then he rallied. Pure mental grit.

I went to the Common Room bar at Wimbledon village to watch with my bf, thought we'd have a drink, we ended up having five until the game was over! There was shouting, and biting nails, and I was in tears by the end, like a few other people too. What a grueling endurance test that was. I think the entire world is now going 'awww' and *pat pat pat* at Andy.

It was an endurance test. We literally thought it would never end, and I remember us begging someone to win. Just win! And finally Roger did. Felt sad for Andy though, what a fighter.

Though I came in rooting for Andy, and got confused watching who to root for watching you guys, it was worth the migraine;)

The hug at the end to celebrate made my dulled the pain for Andy. It was historic and we were there.

Sorry couldn't come to the pub with you guys. But drinks on me if you ever come to NYC...

Oh it did... although I wish that match came with a warning. "Might cause tension headaches". I probably have to take zomig if ever there's a Fedal final again. It works better before the actual full on Headache starts. But it got better after sleeping off a bit in the dark. Although I woke up thinking of Andy's loss and wished I had gone drinking :)

Absolutely. What amazed me was how they kept their concentration. I mean, I'd have lost interest and started writing porn a shopping list in my head ... But I guess this is what separates the likes of Roger and Roddick from the rest of us.

Must say I smiled (and thought of you) when Roger mentioned 'Rafa' in the post-match interview.

They have boggling levels of focus, I really don't know how they manage it, although a crowd of 20,000 watching you probably helps you focus a bit better.

Oh, Andy. Sigh. I so wanted Roger to win, but Andy's presser was just the saddest thing ever, I felt so bad for him. :( I'm going to watch the French final again for its undiluted happiness. No yoking.
