Yeah. It wasn't one of their classic matches. Roger just wasn't at his best - he was overhitting too many shots, and he handed Rafa that service break in the final set entirely through his own errors rather than Rafa's genius. The double faults! Oh, Roger....
I did want Roger to win this one - Rafa wanted to win it, but I think Roger needed to win it, for himself. And I adore Rafa, it's kind of hard not to, but Roger was my first love, long before Rafa came on the scene.
The double faults were nightmarish, I really didn't want it to end that way. I wanted Roger to win too, so much. I realised this just about the time I realised he was going to lose.
Yeah, I think Roger really started to lose confidence in himself. He doesn't normally crumble mentally that way, he normally fights back. And I think last night probably made him doubt himself, whether he can really make that one more slam he so desperately wants.
To see him fall apart so badly after he lost serve shook me probably as much as it shook him.
