2006 - Roland Garros
Federer is not only a champion, but also a gentleman and an elegant rival. He did not try to humiliate me, he did not draw blood. I don't think he wanted to win like that, against a frightened opponent who hardly put up any resistance. He wanted to win against Rafa Nadal.

Wimbledon - 2007
I made him show his best, far from the lord of grass performing a ballet to a fellow puppet. This time he sweated, he sweated as never before and I even managed to bother him a bit.

Wimbledon - 2008
Nothing around me was important, time stopped, the voices faded and the stands were no more than mist. Roger and I were alone.

Another final against Federer. I correct. It is never 'another'. It is never 'one more'. Every meeting is the first and the last.


I love the theatrical metaphor, Rafa! In fact, I love it all.

Also, reading this, it's eerily as if the stuff we write - at least parts of it, set on court - are true. No other players are like this, are they?

It's interesting that Rafa includes 2007 Wimby in his list of memorable victories - it seems partly because Roger said to him after the match 'you deserved this too'.

a bit off topic but still.. Both Roger & Rafa have got to be aware of the slash on the internet about them. Roger mentioned in an interview once that he watches a youtube vid of himself (where he can't stop laughing during a different interview). So I'm sure he has seen the slash vids too. It's got to be wierd, seeing people make up stuff about you.

I think it must be weird, and actually I kind of hope they haven't seen it or know about it. I think I wouldn't want them to be upset by it... I know this is slightly hypocritical of me because I happily write and post it, but still.
