A short trip to the seaside

Connotations was so much fun. Spending time with like minded people is one of the best pick me ups. I got there late Friday, sat in the bar till even later, then got up at 8 for a run on the beach!
new_kate and
daegaer got up with me and came down to the beach and watched from a safe distance. Running on beaches is my new favourite thing, it was just awesome and, yes, BRACING.
I caught a couple of panels, one on rps, then we braved the rain and went to spend money in the fleshpots of Tynemouth, and eat cake. Saturday night was the moderately tidy dinner, then the vid show that included the truly frightening Shatner 'interpretation' of Rocket Man. We all got up for another run on Sunday, then mostly hung around chatting until it was time to for me and
new_kate to haul ourselves away in the afternoon.
I've been a bit poorly since I got back, with something the doctor suspects is a urinary tract infection. Joy. So I've been drinking lots of water and have also taken a couple of days off work.
Anyway, I have photos:
The Haunted Lido of Tynemouth Beach. You just know ravening slime beasts lurk under the mud in the middle

The 'ironing board' was just literally a board, with no legs. The TV had been trundled over the large melted patch of carpet that was clearly caused by someone placing a hot iron face down on it. Just next to the board is the sofa that eats people.

A lot of this kind of thing went on

This beast was spotted lurking in a second hand shop in Tynemouth. I think it just ate a shop assistant.

Daegaer's feet looking extremely glamorous and well presented!

Beautiful beach - cool and windy and with the kind of bright sun that makes everything shimmer. I adore this place.

Note the dude on the left who is surfing in apparently an inch of water

O hai!

Date: 2008-10-09 04:34 pm (UTC)The beach looks wonderful for a walk (looks chilly though!) Your food pictures are inspiring me to go bake cookies. >_> Mmmmm comfort food.
What the heck is the first pic, is that an ice rink or something else?

Date: 2008-10-09 06:30 pm (UTC)It was cold! Brrr. But in the invigorating way. I think you should make cookies. I approve of this plan!
As grac mentions, it's a lido - which is basically an outdoor swimming pool. I've no idea why they're called lidos but they used to be very popular. Most of them seem to have closed or been abandoned though, which I think is sad.

The doc didn't give you anything for the urinary tract infection? I get those about once a year ... I can sometimes make them go away with massive doses of cranberry juice. This was once considered something of a folk remedy, but it's recently been proved to have a sound scientific basis. (If that doesn't work, I'm given antibiotics.)

Date: 2008-10-09 06:25 pm (UTC)The doctor took a urine sample for testing, probably to be able to give me the right sort of antibiotics? But yes, she failed to mention the cranberry juice thing. I've been drinking lots of it over the past few days and it does seem to be helping.

Date: 2008-10-20 03:55 am (UTC)FWIW, I'm also dreadfully prone to UTIs, and have had very good luck treating at home with cranberry juice -- at this point I can pretty much recognize the earliest twinges that something unpleasant is starting up, and if I start in promptly on upping the cranberry juice consumption and water intake in general, and cutting back on my usual excessive caffeine, it's almost always enough to back it back -- I think I've only needed to go in for antibiotics on that once in the last decade or so. Cranberry tablets/capsules are helpful to keep in stock, particularly if cranberry juice isn't an everyday staple in your cupboard -- they'll let you build up a therapeutic level of the active ingredients a little faster than just guzzling the juice, plus even if you like the taste sometimes you get tired of drinking nothing but cranberry all day -- this lets you keep up the dosage even when you want to take a break for a different beverage.
Wonderful pictures -- you look fabulous, and I have total shoe envy for

Date: 2008-10-10 02:33 am (UTC)But those are great pictures...and fude and coffee in cups and saucer type things ...how awesome and wonderfully civilised ... makes me want to take out the nice china for a cuppa!!
thank you for sharing.
Hope the UTI goes away ... yes cranberry juice, grapefruit or orange juice, but basically anything with a high citrus content and lots of fluids.
take care and rest up well. * gentle hugs*
ps- those are exquisitely splendidly flirty feet and toes in an equally exquisitely gorgeous sandals!

Date: 2008-10-10 09:06 am (UTC)Another big topic of discussion was how people dealt with characterisation of real people, with the general consensus being that people in the public eye generally adopted a persona anyway, so you could say that the people you're writing about aren't actually real anyway.
I didn't buy this quite so much with sports people, although I think it's probably more true for actors and musicians. I mean, pop stars are pretty much manufactured and with a carefully constructed image.
I think that was pretty much it. Oh, and we also talked about how rps has become so much more acceptable in fandom, even from 4 or 5 years ago. I'm not sure we came up with any reasons why though.
*hugs* I am duly drinking lots of cranberry and also water and it does seem to be helping, although now I have picked up a cold, ugh! The immune system seems to be pretty low at the moment.
I thought Daegaer's feet looked so pretty in those sandals. Very photo-worthy!

Date: 2008-10-10 10:17 am (UTC)I know of at least one on my f-list who thinks it isn't right, and I remember before I started down that way I did agonise over it for quite some time. Heh! I didn't even know there was a comm for my boyband ff.
I think part of the reason why I started to begin with was the 'fanservice' which in my boyband's particular case is pretty blatant, whatever you want to beleive there probably IS a scenario for it.
So part of the 'okay'-ish ness comes from ... as you say the projected image and the 'fanservice' - although telling a stadium full of concert goers 'to please still favour us with gentle eyes -onegaishimasu, because we are going out' and then proceeding to kiss on stage kind of makes you want to write about them all the time even more fanservice or not. ^__^ - sorry for the pimp there. I couldn't help it ....
ahh *looks up in horror* I'm such a babbler... sorry dear.
but yes I love those feet still. Only because I have ones that the world dfinitely not ought to see at all.
get well soonest 'kay. and tanking up on the vit. C will help start building up the immune system again!

Date: 2008-10-10 09:08 am (UTC)It was so hard to get up but once I was there it was amazing! Running next to the crashing waves, ahhhh.

Date: 2008-10-10 11:30 am (UTC)So they left rps off the poll and just decided to sneak the panel quietly onto the agenda, hmmm?
Bracing running on the beach makes you a role model. *nodnod* Yes it does.
That - dresser? vanity? vampire? - looks like it would be right at home in Burton and Depp's "Sweeney Todd".
Are you related to Thandie Newton? You resemble her in that picture. That is a compliment, with the Mona Lisa mystique thing going on that you both seem to have.
Garlic will help both race out the UI and build up the immune system. Odorless pills if you must, but you will have to take more than if you chop the clove and just swallow the chopped pieces and wash them down with 8 oz water. Yes, I know. Yes, you can.
"Shatner 'interpretation' of Rocket Man"
A classic.
