One of my favourite places on the internets to go and stare at (clothed) people is The Sartorialist - amazingly dressed people on the streets.

I'm often surprised by how well people put clothes together in unexpected ways, and it really makes me consider how I could express myself more through my clothes. I consider-- and then I don't do much else. I suspect looking this chic and well turned out takes more time, effort, moeny and skill than I can give it. One thing about these pictures always strikes me: they always look so pleased to be photographed.

Also, I think I am developing a thing about men wearing dress shoes and no socks in that way that Italian men seem to pull off so well. Not like a major obsession or anything! I just like it for some reason.

ETA just some of my favourites so I don't forget

Ooh, clothes!

I'm going to see Claire on Sunday to collect That Coat! I'm not sure yet how long I'll be flouncing around in order to get good photos for her website, but would you like to meet up afterwards?

Oooh, The Coat. Meeting up would be lovely, but I'm not sure I can. Mum and Dad are supposed to be coming down that day. If anything changes I'll let you know.

I think I am developing a thing about men wearing dress shoes and no socks in that way that Italian men seem to pull off so well.

Ooh, but think of the blisters. And the whining that would accompany them. And - OMG - grubby plasters! Silk socks, OTOH, the type Roger Federer would wear ...

Heeee! Good point about the whining and grubby plasters. But but! Now I have to show you the Annie Leibowitz picture of Roger looking totally suave with no socks on:

http://www.mensvogue.com/images/health/2007/04/hesl03_federer.jpg

Maybe men could just pose like this for me, sockless, and then sock up again later.

Squee! There is something exceedingly attractive about nice, bare feet combined with very formal clothing. But I notice Roger has the sense not to be wearing shoes. *ponder* I suppose really soft, good quality Italian leather shoes might not cause blistering ...

Nice feet are very, very nice, aren't they? Like nice hands.

No no, he has shoes! This is the picture that got me thinking about the whole shoes with no socks issue. They're nice dark ones that look like suede and are probably perfect for wearing with no socks.

I ttly agree, nice feet can be so beautiful, just as much as hands.

All I can see is a shapely naked ankle.

No, that wasn't a complaint. ;-)

Mmmm... shapely ankles. :D

He is wearing shoes though, if you focus beyond said shapely ankle to look at the foot behind.

*is footwear pedant*

Then I take it you have this book (http://www.amazon.com/Sex-Life-Foot-Shoe/dp/0894645730)? I have it somewhere about the house - bought partly because I thought it had been written by one of my Uni tutors.

Ooh, interesting! I haven't come across that before. Sex life... is it as kinky as it sounds?

IIRC it's a pseud-academic work written by a true foot-fetishist. You can almost hear the salivating and heavy breathing. If I find it again, I'll post a few quotes.

The book materialized this morning. Okay, it was actually on the shelf next to my bed. No wonder I hadn't noticed it recently. Who the hell looks for a book on a bookshelf?

Anyway ... brace yourself!

Mmmm. Annie Leibowitz' pictures are always so sensuous.

Oh, good, you got that - of course you did.

I was reading through the back "issues" of the journal here (good guess, right?) post-"Changing of the Light" and read this post and thought: "Hmmm ... I wonder if louise has this ..."

But - of course you do.

"Federer ... Roger Federer."

Even though I know athletes aren't supposed to drink much in training, can't help but wonder how the man likes his martinis.

Cool site, thanks! *bookmarks* The shorts with jacket thing was interesting, lol. This reminds me of my own favorite street fashion website, Tokyo Street Style (http://www.style-arena.jp/index.htm). Some of the stuff in there is pretty wild, lol.

I love how on that site you can see how people dress differently in different parts of the city. Fascinating.

*sighs covetously*
It's awful how seeing well/interestingly dressed people just makes me so jealous...:/
But you probably have a point about the investment thing. ^_^;
Althought, being a...how should I say, a person who pounces at any unsuspecting second hand store or fleamarket like a starving tiger?
I'd say it might be possible to find nice clothes on a small-ish budget.
Only not with my taste. -_-;

Still, that site seems awfully tempting...

I'm often surprised by how well people put clothes together in unexpected ways, and it really makes me consider how I could express myself more through my clothes.

Some people make it look so damn effortless. Sometimes I find myself being daring and wearing what I want around the house, but when it comes to heading out I tend to chicken out a bit. I'm not super introverted or anything like that, I just don't have so much faith in my style. *g*

Anyway, thank you for the link(s) to the site! I love looking at what others are wearing. :D

Italian men sometimes are wearing those thin nylon socks too. It's a trick. :D
