More extraordinary brane powers
Mar. 3rd, 2008 12:20 pmThanks for all the answers to the special powers poll. My favourites:
Sanzo:
If he had telekinesis, he'd never let anyone get within 50 metres of him.
Pissed off!Medium.
Slight precognition and slight telepathy, the rest is all attitude
Hakkai:
Psychometry, healing and life-force vampirism
Only acts like he's reading your mind.
Absolute direction sense like an internal GPS - this made me think of Mildmay!
Goku
Spidey-sense
Telekenesis or just plain superstrength. Maybe he's the Incredible Hulk?
Gojyo
The ability to give someone an orgasm just by thinking about it.
Charm / presence / awe-inducing magnetism. Or pyrokinesis.
Empathic / psychometry - quite a few people suggested empath for Gojyo.
*mulls it over*
Also, random thought of the day (last night): I was wondering if Koumyou kept Ukoku and Kouryuu apart on purpose. Kouryuu only has one memory od Ukoku, but it's clear Ukoku visited Koumyou sometimes - or even regularly? I really want to read more stories about Nii.

I thought Ukoku tened to visit Koumyou at night, and just assumed Kouryuu was asleep by then.

Date: 2008-03-03 01:03 pm (UTC)I'm never sure how often Ukoku visits, although Koumyou doesn't seem that surprised to see him.

Oh dear. *falls over from cute!overload*

Date: 2008-03-03 12:49 pm (UTC)There is that one time where Koryuu is chiding Koumyou for staying up too late, and Koumyou's all, "yes, yes, good night," and then he turns to Ukoku, like Ukoku's just been waiting there all this time.

Date: 2008-03-03 12:34 pm (UTC)Hm, I think Koumyou would've been well aware that Ukoku was jealous of Kouryuu. That's maybe why he kept them away from each other for the most part. He may have also foreseen their paths crossing at some point in the future, or perhaps he just didn't want Ukoku influencing Kouryuu at such a young age.

Date: 2008-03-03 12:55 pm (UTC)I agree - it seems to me that Koumyou knew perfectly well how dangerous Ukoku could be and was protecting Kouryuu.
Do you think Ukoku is jealous of the unconditional love that Koumyou has for Kouryuu? In Sunspots, when he says he's jealous of Hazel and Filbert's relationship, I'm not sure exactly what part of it he's jealous of - maybe that he's never had a master who loved him so much?

Date: 2008-03-03 12:50 pm (UTC)I didn't have time to really think about your poll first time round but I did think Gojyo might be good at snake-charming. Nothing Freudian in that at all. *whistles*

Date: 2008-03-03 12:59 pm (UTC)Perhaps the world would be a safer place if Sanzo weren't telepathic. I like the idea of him being able to read people's futures.

And as for the orgasm thing... that would make for a very Special Power! I

Date: 2008-03-03 01:05 pm (UTC)The orgasm thing could be like his secret weapon for when Hakkai nags about ashtrays and cleaning.

"Sanzo why did you shoot them all"
"They deserved it moron"

Date: 2008-03-03 06:00 pm (UTC)yswt :)
Maybe Hakkai could suck people's energy by touching them like Rogue from the X-Men, and Gojyo could be like a sort of psychic null, canceling out everyone else's powers, so he's the only one Hakkai can touch without killing him. (This might be from the X-Men too actually; did Rogue get a boyfriend like that? I cannot remember.)
Sanzo's power could be singing! He kills them at karaoke night! No, srsly (semi srsly), instead of his chanting with the sutra, his voice could somehow invest songs with power, so he sings something sad and his opponents fall down weeping. He would hate it so much, heh.
I sort of like Goku as the Giles-type scholar, because it's so incongruous.

Date: 2008-03-03 08:05 pm (UTC)I'm rather curious about that myself.
And just for the record: I LOVE Nii and I flail at the chance of reading more stories about him as well as writing a few. The most recent installment from Minekura had me all a twitter.

Date: 2008-03-03 11:42 pm (UTC)Plus, as others pointed out, Ukoku seemed to have a habit of visiting Koumyou in the middle of the night, and seemed to deliberately choose to come over when nobody else was around. (My, doesn't that sound risque?)
I absolutely adore Koumyou and Ukoku's relationship, and the complexities involved in it. It seems like every time someone mentions something about them, there's something new for me to consider!

Date: 2008-03-04 10:53 am (UTC)I get EXACTLY the same thing. It is really so complex, I love them and how oddly dysfunctional they are.
That's an interesting idea that Ukoku's jealousy includes the relative peace and security of Sanzo's life and his position as Koumyou's disciple. Ukoku could never be that, because he became a Sanzo as soon as he met Koumyou, but I think Koumyou tried to give him some instruction at least.

Date: 2008-03-04 12:18 am (UTC)Ahaha! That's actually more fun to picture than Gojyo with orgasmic powers.
