Flu

I had a toffee waffle and some tea and now my head aches slightly.

I've had the flu, my doctor said. I don't wish it on anyone. It has a lovely wide range of symptoms! I have never had such an upsetting frustrating cough in my life, the sort where it wakes you up all night long and your coughs begin to make other people look around for the sealion that got in... Cough medicine is useless against a cough like that, I found. I put my faith in honey, fizzy vitamin C tablets and hot marmite. Not all at the same time, I hasten to add. I like to think they helped.

Anyway, it's going. At last!

Glad you feel better. I've always had a weak chest (ahem) so I totally relate to the cough-problems.

and now I'm off to get my flu-jab, with renewed enthusiasm!

Get a flu jab!! I urge you most strongly. I'd hate for you to get what I had.

Consider me jabbed. ^_^

My arm hurts now

The nurse asked me if I minded needles, and I said no, I have acupuncture regularly, and she said 'oh, so you do this for fun, do you'.

And then I thought of Hakkai (chinese healer) and Gojyo (pulled thigh muscle). And that's *all your fault*. ^_^

Mmmmm, Marmite!

I recommend a Whizzbang. Start with a Lemsip, add honey to taste, then a generous slug of whisky. Retire to bed before it kicks in, or make sure you have somewhere comfortable to pass out.

heheh Drambuie is my 'medicine' of choice...I'm not much of a whisky person.

Marmite on toast...yummm...Also marmite with hot boiling water as a kind of a weak soup helps convalescing too. ^__^

Heh, my mother was never really a drinker but her favorite cold remedy was fairly similar -- hot water mixed with fresh Meyer lemon juice (oh how I miss that tree), honey, and a shot of whiskey. Good for what ails you!

And mmm, toasty yeasty goodness. Although I have fallen under heretical Australian influences, and thus prefer Vegemite on my toast. :)

Yessss

I met a man from Brussels
he was 6 foot four and full of muscles
I said-a, "Do you speak-a my language?"
He just smiled and gave me a vegemite sandwige."
aaaah the nostalgia of the eighties...whoops showing the age there! ^__~

Glad to know you're on the mend...I can totally sympathise with you there on the cough front.

Hope the chest clears up and you get to breathe easy soon.

amen to the vit C - it helps with the stress, and helps with the recovery

also, juices are good. going to the bathroom removes toxins -
so you need tons of liquids. water's good too.
but usually when having flu, the taste is bleah, so i'd recommend the juice
instead of plain water.

freshly squeezed lemon juice with honey is good.
in my part of the world, we have hot calamansi (no english translation)
with some honey. does a body good.

and for the throat. hot water with rock salt.
gargle. works wonders, too.

hmmm. i dont know marmite so i'd have to google that -

hope you get better faster.
the flu is the pits indeed.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Calamondin,

(Sometimes) I think in Malay it may be called Limau Kasturi. ^__^ but this can be mixed up with other thngs of the same general family of citrus fruit...but on looking deeper I find that I'm mistaken...here for more...just for knowledge...

Thanks for the well wishes. Yeah, I've been so thirsty and a lot of the time fluids were all I wanted.

Ooh, calamansi look interesting - like satsumas. Marmite is like a yeast extract paste and you can add hot water and drink it like a broth.

*hugs* glad you're feeling better.
I sympathise. Me and a friend both came down with 'proper' flu after a con and I wouldn't wish it on anyone. I think I was hallucinating at one point. I had the same sort of cough as you by the sounds of it - but nowhere near as bad as my friend who coughed so hard he tore the muscles across his breastbone o_O

Oh no, poor man! That does sound bad. Erk, my sympathies if you had this cough too. It's too horrible.

Stating the obvious here, but being ill sucks.

Glad to hear you're recovering. Even if I am slightly appalled by the notion of hot marmite. *shudder*

My best wishes for you!
