I think I might include my swimming in the Eowyn Challenge, just because I can.

30 mins, 0.5 miles, total: 29 miles. They stop to rest, eat and rest more.

I don't seem to have lost any weight particularly, which is annoying, but I have more stamina than I did about a month ago. I gardened for about four hours yesterday, and I haven't done that for about a year.

never, ever measure in terms of weight. I still weigh basically what I did back when I was a size 14/16, which is approx ten stone +/- a few pounds. Considering I am now a size 10/12, we can assume something's been lost. Chuck out the scales and invest in measuring tape and the jiggle test. (the jiggle test being the 'how much does your flesh jiggle when you bounce' factor. The less your flesh jiggles, the more toned you are.)

Oh, that's quite inspiring! :D I like your method far more than mine - scales are deeply depessing things.

Ah, but you know, that's probably because you've gained muscle - and muscle weighs more than fatty tissue.
I always measure my weight by my pants, when they start getting tight (and vice versa), I know I need to watch out.
Swimming sounds good. I'd never do that because I'm a lousy swimmer, unless I'm allowed to dive along under the water. ;P

I think the jeans measure is a good one. I like them to be a bit loose, and currently they really aren't!

I second what [livejournal.com profile] burntcopper says. Listen to your body, not the scale. I've been working out on an elliptical since November, 3-5 times per week. I have lost exactly ZERO pounds! My stamina has definitely improved, my thighs are less jiggly, and my Ireland vacation weight gain (two weeks of pub food and stout! Eek!) fell off almost instantly, but if I were using the scale as my only guide, I'd probably have given up entirely.

Ohh, thanks! That gives me hope that its not all for nothing. In fact the thighs are showing some improvement all ready, in that they look more toned. Hoorah!

Seconding what everybody says...weight loss will probably be negligible.

I took up martial arts 2 years ago, and running around after a hyper 5 year old boy and 8 year old girl, and dropped from UK size 16 to 12 (butt still is huge though ^__^ so 14's for trousers still though I have to take in the waist) Scales say I'm more or less the same weight. *sniff*

Go you, I bet you'll be svelte and toned in no time at all.

I have exactly the same trouble as you with trousers and skirts. I need a 16 but my waist is smaller than that, so I have the gaping waistband problem.

Also, your life sounds hectic. *g*

Yep, yep, what everyone else says is true. Muscle weighs more than fat anyway, so when you lose fat and gain muscle, you probably won't notice any change in your weight. The best measures of lost weight are the 'old jeans' test, where you check to see if you can fit into clothes you couldn't before, and the 'jiggle test' someone else mentioned. I've been trying to walk on the treadmill regularly, and while I haven't lost any weight according to the scales, I have more stamina and my butt is less wiggly when I jump up and down. XD So I know something's working, no matter what the scale tells me!

I have my old jeans on standby for testing!
