Because I have a fancy new camera...
Dec. 24th, 2006 12:49 pmSights around Reading this winter:

The Christmas display in the window of Jackson's department store - the whole town is too scared to go in there.

"Are you my mummy?"

A bit of old Reading Abbey that no one could think what to do with, so they set it on bricks in the graveyard.

I love that there was an entire association devoted to them and also that they were thought of as the same thing! This attractive monument is outside the swimming baths near my hour, just on the pavement. I don't know if it is still in its original position- it could be, otherwise it is an odd place to have a cattle trough.

This is actually not Reading, it's Birmingham, but I like the picture a lot because of the contrast of the two structures.

My favourite thing about Christmas is being able to put a tree in the sitting room! I love the way it smells and looks and just the fact that... it's a tree. There is something deeply magical about putting coloured lights in trees.

They are the comfiest ones I've ever had, honestly. Made by Clarks, they are suede, foot shaped and have a thick crepe soul.

Date: 2006-12-24 04:01 pm (UTC)That abbey bit looks beautiful. The landscape looks more autumny than wintery. *g*

Date: 2006-12-24 07:11 pm (UTC)I wish it was more wintery, believe me. As an inhabitant of one of those countries where snow is fairly rare, I have a totally idealised view of snow and ice and feeezing weather. I am sure it's not so much fun if snow there for months on end.

Date: 2006-12-24 05:47 pm (UTC)Today we went walking on a wild and windy peninsula, then into town to meet people for drinks, and now we're fit to slump and snooze. Instead, we must go to my mum's for dinner!
Merry Christmas Eve!

Date: 2006-12-24 07:23 pm (UTC)Reading Abbey. So, so pretty. I'm a sucker for gothic architecture.
I should take my knitting downstairs and sit by the Christmas tree to do it. Hmm. (Love the bookshelves in the background, too. Yay, books.)
Teeeny feet! I have very big feet. Shoes look very comfy.

Date: 2006-12-25 03:58 pm (UTC)Hee, Christmas tree. Trees are excellent. They were sold out this year so we have a holly bush instead. It was not very easy, to decorate, but it looks really cool. A friend has a sheep's skull nailed above his door in the middle of the decorative greenery. That also looks cool. :) Merry Christmas, yo.
