Once, I left the ferrets in the bathroom while I was cleaning. "They can't make a mess," I thought, "all the fun stuff is off the ground."
When I was done, I came back. The toilet paper had all been rolled off the roll and was now carpeting the floor. The ferrets were happily rolling around in it.
And that is the origin of the phrase 'rolling in it like a ferret.'
Our cats used to roll the toilet paper open, like you would when you use it, only as much as there was to roll until it was all on the floor. They didn't roll in it (thankfully!), but turning the roll so you needed to roll it up instead of down didn't help, because they figured out how to do it, too. So now every time we go to bed or leave the house, the toilet paper roll goes to a cabinet. (And if there are guests over, they can't find it when they use the toilet in the middle of the night!)
