Seeing as how I can't type much, I recorded some voice posts using my trusty (by which I mean aged) headset. [livejournal.com profile] emungere swears that I do not sound like a chipmunk in these... although when I played them back on my pc they played at double speed. Er, lets see what happens. They're small .wav files, via yousendit:

Have you ever seen the Maltron keyboard? I wittered on about them for years in "adapt your hardware" lectures, but then had to use the demo model in all seriousness when I tore the tendons in my arm.

The usual reaction, particularly if you can already type, is WTF have they done to it. This is quite rational; they're clunky and, at leat the one I used, give the impression of having been made in a shed for a school project. But functionally they are the most comfortable keyboard I've used.

Can be hired by the week and good candidates for DDA grants for employers.

end sales pitch

And your vice posts sound fine. Though no one ever sounds as I expect.

Hmmm, thanks, they look interesting. I've been thinking of getting an ergonomic keyboard for a while now. did it take you long to get used to it?

So, what did you imagine I might sound like? *g*

It only took a couple of days to get used to the alpha keys, which are on the same fingers and rows. About a week for most of the numbers and punctuation because they've moved further. And I never got used to touch-typing the 5 because I use the "wrong" hand for it on a normal keyboard.

It probably wasn't so much of a shock for me since I'd been showing it to students for several years. There was a strong need to learn as I couldn't get both hands on a normal keyboard at once. And the point of honour to show that, yes, it really was a help if you had restricted movement, after assuring others of this without ever needing it myself.

Actually you sound very much as I do when I hear myself recorded. That always surprises me too.
