Played Neverwinter Nights. Cannot work out how to use the spells in my inventory and keep getting killed by goblins.

Wrote 2000+ words of the story based on inspirational Minekura art of Hakkai with a mop and bucket, here. I saw the name 'Marshall Applewhite' today somewhere - is that a good Hakkai reincarnation name or what?

I bought two volumes of Getbackers and also a Samurai Champloo shot glass. I know, but it had Jin on it and it was only £4. Also, Kid Eternity by Grant Morrison and Duncan Fegredo. I loved WE3, apart from the fascination with gore. This looks like it has less gore but not quite as good art.

Two second hand volumes of Chinese Creeds and Customs by VR Burkhardt, where in there is the legend of 'Mister Rabbit', who is actually a hare who sacrificed his own life so that the Buddha might eat, first removing the fleas from his fur and then throwing himself onto a bed of magical coals to be cooked. As a reward, Buddha decreed that forever after the hare's face should adorn the moon. I've read a different Japanese moon/rabbit legend, although I can't remember it in detail now, but these do go some way to explaining possible links between Minekura's moon and bunny doll imagery in Saiyuki. It's interesting that in this story the hare, who becomes associated with the moon, sacrifices his life, as does Koumyou.

I've justed started playing NWN these past couple weeks. Went for a fighter type, as it seemed an easier way to get a handle on the story. Of course, being a half-elf means I keep getting accused of being a plague bringer. :p

Also just watched the first two eps of Samurai Champloo. ^_^

*looks forward to seeing that story some time* ^_^ And yes, sounds like a good name.

Hmm, I'm tempted to restart it as a fighter type. It's hard!

I saw you'd just watched Samurai Champloo. It's such a good anime, specially in terms of art and historical detailing. Have you got all 24/25 eps?

I started as a ranger and have now multiclassed a bit with fighter. I'm glad the henchpeople look after their own spells and leave me to bash stuff.

If you haven't finished the Prologue yet, it might be worth it. You can always put your skill thingy points towards other classes as you go. (I choose Rogue when I levelled up, which... probably isn't helping my reputation, but does wonders for getting locked chests open. ^_^)

I have the first 8 so far, but AniKraze still has the torrents up, so I can grab the others easy enough. ^_^

It's been a while, but I think if you put the spells in your quick-use slots, where they get assigned to function keys, then target your opponent via the Attack option, you can hit the function key and the spell will whack the target. Or you can click on the spell in the quick-use slot, and your mouse will then turn into a target pointer, so you can click on your opponent and attack. I don't think you can use spells straight from inventory, but like I said, it's been a while.

By GB volumes, do you mean manga or anime?

And ooh! I know about the rabbit making rice cakes in the moon, but I completely spaced on associating that with Nii's bunny! *kicks self* Minekura is a goddess.

Oh, that's such a pretty picture!

The books and shot glas sound fab. And I scored a great book in Belgium - an old one on feudal Japan! I'm hoping to get lots of Hideyoshi inspiration from it.

Yay, Hideyoshi! Have you written any more recently?

I haven't written any more, but I have re-read the whole thing so far, and the drabbles where Crowley in modern Japan thinks he's found Hideyoshi again, and done some minor fiddling. I definitely want to write some this week - you should poke me to make sure I do!

I will certainly poke you with my pokey stick!

Also, thank you for Deadwoood! I got it before you went away, but forgot to say. I haven't managed to actually watch any yet though, gah.

Yay, it arrived! It's really good.

I've been working on a Sakura fic - can I send it for you to look at in a bit?

It's been ages since I've played NWN. I went for bard, which meant some magic, but mostly wacking with sword. I'm pretty sure the user manual tells you how to set up spells for quick use, though, and it doesn't have to be via keyboard shortcuts...I don't have the manual dexterity for that. It's why I loved the Bioware games so much - pretty much everything could be done via mouse.

Samurai Champloo rules.

I am Netflixing Samurai Champloo, and am just loving it. Hello, Jin, you are yet another one of my Sekrit Anime Boyfriends with sexy glasses and great competence masking great inner geekiness.

Oh, yay, exactly! He is an enormous geek, and you get the feeling he doesn't talk much not so much because he doesn't give voice to idle thoughts (or something) but because he's not quite sure what to say.

Yes, absolutely.

By the way, please help me procrastinate there is a very interesting Samurai Champloo discussion going on in the comments here http://rachelmanija.livejournal.com/292974.html#cutid1 (with massive spoilers for everything through disc five, beware) which you should come participate in if you've watched it that far.

i recommend going with fighter first for NWN, and if you still want magic, you can eventually multiclass as a sorcerer and then a rogue. a friend of mine who also plays told me that those three classes were the quickest possible way to finish the game and all the sidequests.

Hmmm, I may well do that - thanks.
