Fandoms I have loved
Aug. 27th, 2005 07:27 pmFrom the earliest to the latest:
X files is the first boyfriend, almost done for a dare, to see what would happen. The one you lose your virginity to and it's messy and confusing and uncomfortable and involves a certain loss of dignity. At the time it all seemed pretty much like what everyone else did, but now you can look back and think 'we were so young and stupid. I didn't know what love was, really.'
Harry Potter is the one you were never completely sure about. Attractive but needy and prone to acting like a hormonal teenager when you're out with friends. Still, they're handsome and charming and it's romantic for a little while, until they finally wear you out with their sheer unpredictability and mood swings. You'd rather stay at home with a good book, to be honest.
From Eroica With Love is the one that got away. You don't know why it didn't work. Maybe you just turned the wrong corner one day, opened the wrong door, saw the wrong face. Whatever, it makes you sad, looking back. But you secretly hope you'll meet again one day and things will work. And that they have better dress sense these days.
The Professionals: the passionate fling. You consider running off for a shotgun wedding, but no. Two weeks later you wake up and wonder what on earth you were thinking.
Good Omens is the first time you fell in love for real. There's always so much to talk about, endless rambling conversation about strange stuff. They could always hold your attention and it felt like they were really into you too, as much as you were into them. And they were surprisingly good in bed. They're the first one you got serious with and began to think about mortgages and babies and a lifetime of composting properly and wearing comfy cardigans. You're still not completely sure why you're not with them anymore, but now they're more like family than a lover.
Sherlock Holmes - oh, how I loved you from afar. I got as far writing you a love letter, but never posted it. I don't think you can ever be mine.
Saiyuki is the one you glimpse out of the corner of your eye one day and think - huh, cute, but not my type. Then one day you sit down and talk and straight away its like you've known them forever and they're funny and clever and up close really really pretty. And nuts. You end up doing weird stuff together and it's the best fun you've ever had. The things they do make you just *know* that they're trouble, big emotional trouble, but you don't care because they're too much fun and you've forgotten what being bored is like. So it's good, apart from the background burble of insanity but it's a small price to pay for the amazingness of everthing else. Anyway, you can't leave because you've fallen in love and now they can string you along for as long as they want. Besides, they have all these interesting friends that hang around and that you can snog without feeling guilty about it.
Samurai Champloo - you think they'd be more popular than they are, so you want to take them out for drinks and show them off to people, but there's no way you're going to get involved with them right now. Oh, okay then, maybe a quick grope if you insist.
Due South is the too-good-to-be-true: kind, caring, funny and eccentric enough to make you want to spend some serious amounts of time with them, to see what's under the surface. Oh, yeah. There's a lot going on there, when you take a look. You go out for long walks and start thinking this could work, except... you're already spoken for and anyway they're intense and bit overwhelming and there's all this history. You can feel soulful, puppy dog eyes turned on you when you're not looking but it's best if you keep your distance. Huh. Like that always works.
Other people I'd love to see do this, although only if they want:
