Quote of the day, in response to a post about the state hanging of two gay teenagers in Iran: 'my rope had better be gucci.'

Some actual gallows humour, there.

In other news the half-a-bottle-of-cointreau approach to relaxation, and let me tell you I was extremely relaxed, gives you bad hangovers and a stomach that gurgles like a chemistry experiment gone wrong. A shower, clean clothes and a trip into town to get nice food is called for.

Also, this is partly a GIP. Little My made by [livejournal.com profile] noirenails. Thank you!

I seem to be having trouble reading fic at the moment and I'm not sure why that is. I want to read very much in Saiyuki, Petshop of Horrors and Samurai Champloo. I'm not quite ready to read Due South fic yet because I haven't seen enough but I'm looking forward to the day. So, yes, there's lots of fic I could go and search out, but I just can't seem to focus on it. Perhaps it's because I can't decide which fandom to go for first.

Does anyone want to rec me anything in those fandoms? I would especially love some more Samurai Champloo recs.

Samurai Champloo fics

There are only two in the yuletide archive (http://www.yuletidetreasure.org/archive/samurai_champloo.html), and there are none on fanfiction.net! I've been longing to read some myself, but it seems to be vanishingly small.

It's a tiny fandom-- last time I looked around there were about 3 fics. Good ones, but hardly enough to satisfy my craving! Thanks for the link.

Btw, you *have* to see eps 18-26 of Samuai Champloo, if you haven't already. It's absolutey fab! Shall I copy them for you and put them in the post?

Either of [livejournal.com profile] luthien's stories (found here (http://luthien.ebonyx.org/docs/fic/index.html#PSOH)) or Telanu's (she was going by the name raison d'etat at the time) which are here (http://telanu.thirteenblackbirds.net/) ("Unwilling Sleep" is post-manga and particularly cool), or Nym's story "Beauty," which you can find here (http://nym.amplexus.org/)).

Unwilling Sleep is great--I'm really enjoying it.

Thanks so much for these links, I had no idea Telanu and Nym were writing fic for this fandom, although I knew Luthien was.

You're so welcome! I'm glad you're liking Unwilling Sleep...and when you've finished all these, I think Luthien has a few PSoH recs.

It was all Telanu's fault! She found it first, and what was I going to do when she told me she had a new story in a fandom I'd never heard of and did I want to look it over? Nym tries to blame me for PSOH because I have a history of luring her into new fandoms. I was just an innocent victim this time, though. Really.

I've recced a few PSOH stories on my recs page (http://luthien.ebonyx.org/docs/recs/recs2.html), including a couple of others by Nym and Telanu. 'Unwilling Sleep' is *the* post-canon story with plot for me in this fandom, but 'Beauty' is, well, simply beautiful, and Telanu's 'Decision' is one of the hottest PWPs I've read in a very long time.

There are a lot of fabulous writers in Due South. I'd recommend anything by Pearl_o (http://pearlo.illuminatedtext.com/) (especially "You and I Are __"), Resonant (http://www.trickster.org/res/#ds) (especially "Adorned"), Cherry Ice (http://www.doyourthing.org/cherry/home.htm), Kat Allison (http://www.katallison.com/), BrooklineGirl (http://members.tripod.com/~happyfriendbox/DSmainpage.html), and Shayheyred (http://www.chezshay.net/duesouth.html), for starters.

I'm also going to put in a special plug for one particular story, D R A W N (http://www.livejournal.com/community/ds_flashfiction/309230.html), by Serialkarma and Lalejandra. The opening scene does things with non-smutty eroticism that must be read to be believed. (Not that there's anything wrong with smut, but I think it's much harder to write a sexy scene that doesn't have the characters doing the deed.)

Oh, marvellous, than you. It's always so hard knowing where to start with a new fandom.

I do like the sound of DRAWN and the non-smutty eroticism-- sounds like a neat trick to pull off.

They're all good (with exception of Due South because I'm not familiar with it) but Saiyuki is the best. With Samurai Champloo after it.

Mmmm, I do love Saiyuki so much. It's my favourite.

I make no promises as to quality (note, these are all marked as "unread,") but I have some Samurai Champloo fics bookmarked at http://del.icio.us/anenko/samuraichamploo.
