Am experimenting with different types of summary on FF.net, to see how it attracts readers. At the moment I'm going for the slutty angle. Hmmm, *strokes chin thoughtfully*
Yes, do let us know what you figure out - I'm quite curious. Speaking as a reader, beyond whether or not the plot sounds interesting, I go for intelligent sounding summaries. I tend to avoid stories that have misspellings in the summary, blatant requests for R&R, and comments like 'I know this sucks, but I wrote it in 45 minutes and now it's 3am and I've got a test tomorrow so pleeeeeeze just read it!!!'
(I'll also arbitrarily avoid stories if I don't like the title, or the name of the author, but that's neither here nor there!)
Yes, I thought hard about what made me read a story, and if the summary sounds even halfway intelligent, I'll give it a whirl. I have no idea what attracts most readers though, so I'm trying smut, intelligence and totallly dumb-ass (if I can bring myself to).
I'd be curious to hear about your findings, too. I know that my summaries are pretty boring but I have dreadful trouble describing my stories. I usually just want to say "Read the story and find out!" Hmmn, maybe "Lots of hot and graphic m/m sex!!!!!" would work better than "Harry is feeling lost and alone." *g*
