Saiyuki Gunlock is still making me laugh and laugh. Here's a song that will definitely go on 'From Sanzo's ipod... ', whenever I get round to making it: Queen Bitch, by David Bowie

She's all swishy in her satin and tat
In her frock coat and bipperty-bopperty hat
Oh god I could do better than that
(yousendit link)

... where the 'she' in question is the highly dubious, yet swishy, man of the cloth Hazel Gloss. Poor Sanzo.

And Shujuan/Ming Yue now too, don't know if you read E. *facepalm* Oh, it's SUCH a Sanzo-Hazel song. Either I must thank you for sharing, or curse your name for burning my synapses. x_x

I haven't read E=mc2, soley because I tend not to read wips and prefer to wait until they're done. Purely a personal prefernce on my part- I've no trouble with people posting/writing stories that way.

I'm glad you agree with me about that song-- if anyone did I suspected it might be you ;-)

E's only getting posted this way because it's so long, it's less of a WIP and more of an ongoing radio drama or something. *waugh* It'll never be done. I even had a nightmare once where I was all alone on an island and an albatross was circling overhead going "E! E! E!"

at least, i presume it was an albatross. it sort of looked like a seagull. but i'm giving my subconscious the benefit of the doubt.

...Yeah, sorry for whining there. :D;

Also liked your post today about why Hazel has to die. First time I saw him in the manga (still haven't seen all the anime; it hurts my brain to try) I knew he had death written all over him. You just can't see him surviving, even in indignity. But I'd never managed to articulate the reason why and I think you had a good line of reasoning going.

E follows on from In my Father's House, doesn't it? I just wanted to say I read the latter this weekend and really enjoyed it-- the premise is wonderful and do I have a soft spot for Kougaiji, and him paired with Sanzo. I'm always surprised there isn't more Kougaiji fic. I think one of my favourire things about IMFH was the way Kougaiji and Sanzo came to know each other so intimately and the way in which you described the mental contact between them. It's a great, inventive, unsual story.

About Hazel-- he's just so dangerous, I think, because he messes with their senses of themselves. He's a perceptive fellow who's not above a bit of psychological torture (never calling the three by their names, for eg) and for me this creates an almost unbearable, and probably unsustainable in terms of plot, tension.

Meep-- *blush* Thank you for comments! I never know what to say when people do that. (It's like calculated warfare against me.)

I've had similar sentiment about Hazel, but tended to look at it in a bit of a plainer light. To me, Hazel's very nearly a caricature of Western culture. He comes off like a southern plantation owner crossbred with a TV evangelist. Racist, elitist, self-fashioned prophet/savior (his modesty Does Not Convince Me). He might not be blatant like most of the ikkou's enemies, but he's still being set up like a villain. And villain means death. You've been rationalizing it in a far better way, though.
