aaaaand I discover to my shock just the other day - on the WA drama CDs Kou's seiyuu is Seki Toshihiko aka SANZO! This, I can assure you, cracked. Me. Up.

Really? Re-reading my scans, I realized I tend to "hear" him as Chin Yisou in my head, which...means my subconscious is making some very interesting character comparisons, for some reason.

Then I threw a summary of Executive Committee into the mix and it really all went to hell.

Oh, I don't picture anyone as Yisou in EC. I just meant that you've got the Saiyuki characters, then you've got the WA characters, who riff off the same archetypes, then you've got the EC characters, who are admitted AUs of the WA characters, and it can get...chaotic.

The main thing that struck me is that there is a character in EC who looks just like a younger Sanzo, and the author of the summary clearly considered Tokito modeled in the same vein as Gojyo/Kenren, therefore she considered this character the Sanzo equivalent. However, I personally code Tokito as the same character type as Sanzo. He's got Gojyo's eyes and he's got dark hair, but the rest of his face design looks more like Sanzo to my eye, and his personality is very adolescent Sanzo with an heap of extra innocence thrown in. Made the summary very interesting reading, especially since the author also stated she didn't have much use for the EC version of Tokito.

I am rapidly becoming a fiend for the WA version, and I've only read the first volume and the first four chapters of the second in trans.
