For
mistressrenet - because I couldn't hold back the mountain of squee I have for these two:
Hakkai/Gojyo
Well. Where do I start? My love for Hakkai/Gojyo is limitless and shameless and altogether beautiful. I adore them together so much that it gives me a pain. For them, I even go onto ff.net. It's one of those pairings that could break your heart if you let it, but it's a pairing with so much going on that my brain goes into overload every time I think about them. Which is sort of annoying, but wonderful too. I don't think I've ever found a pairing quite like them.
They're two hurt people with bad pasts and difficult nows and even more taxing futures who've quietly made a life together and that's the thing, I think. The bond between them. They need each other and they each look to the other as an example of how to do better, how to be better people. They've told each other things no one else knows.
Broken down into its constituent parts you have Gojyo, who wears his hair like a defiant red flag, is filthy, gorgeous, loud, crude and underneath it all is absolutely lost. He speaks before he thinks, but he thinks a lot behind his tough facade and this is one of the great things about Gojyo. There's a lovely contrast between brash Gojyo and the glimpses of the private, thoughtful, intelligent man he is underneath. He lets Hakkai see that side of him, sometimes. The other wondrous thing about Gojyo is that he's aching for someone to come along and pull him into the sort of love affair that remakes your life so you can never be the same again, to be faithful and loyal and, well, to be swept away. And oh! He was. He fell in love with Hakkai and he doesn't even know it. (Or he might know it perfectly well, depending on how I'm feeling that day:) Anyway, Hakkai can control Gojyo with just a look.
Hakkai is just-- guh. Words just can't express my utter squee at the thought of Hakkai. He's so unassuming and yet he's a fucking monster. But that's not why I love him. His polite, kind, caring face isn't a lie - he's trying to make it true. I think that's why. Hakkai is beautiful. A drop-dead, mass murdering, incestuous sad-eyed beauty. Even heterosexually overcompensating Gojyo admits it. Hakkai also has a bruised soul and you can tell he's tired from dragging his past around with him and that's why he needs someone as secretly sweet, dependable and faithful as Gojyo. He doesn't love himself and who knows if he ever has sex, or thinks about it? I doubt if he ever thinks of himself as attractive. He likes tidiness and order and things kept under control, yet underneath there's a sea of angst. In fact there's a whole other being - a youkai. Gojyo is messy and open and wild, but behind that is something quieter and gentler and immovable. I love the idea that they fit together like that, and that they can take something fom each other. It's just wonderful.

Date: 2005-02-26 11:04 pm (UTC)Gojyo and Hakkai ---what's not to love about that? LOVE that pairing, my most favorite pairing. You are so right -- two hurting souls that just need each other. Each has was balances the other. Each gives what the other needs. Each pushes on the other's boundaries -- just enough to make them grow. And of course each can just simply tell when the other is hurting and seems to be able to help the other ride out that rough spot. Goodness gracious what is there to NOT totally LOVE about this pairing. Sigh.

Date: 2005-02-28 12:52 am (UTC)Thank you so much for writing this which is so brilliant and unerringly right. Hakkai and Gojyo belong to each other. Forever. The end. And I very much needed this today, as I had to listen to my cousin musing on how he wanted to read Hakkai/Yaone.
