Dammit Jim, a man's life's at stake!
Aug. 12th, 2002 01:18 pmSo, on Saturday we had ourselves a Trek night, or I did, and M mocked me before getting engrossed himself,("Look, they're flirting!" Bless). It was extremely enjoyable. The episodes I got are all from the very first series, so it was interesting to see an underdeveloped Mr Spock. I happened to get the episode with the very first mind-meld in it. It was a bit odd: Spock went all emotional and trippy. You could tell Leonard Nimoy was rejoicing in the chance to do some proper 'acting'.
I haven't watched the original series for a very long time, perhaps 15 years or more, and I'd forgotten how much the vivid sets conjured up childhood, and watching Star Trek after tea. The polystyrene rocks and pink skies, and diamond shaped doors, and mulitcoloured lights everywhere. And the amount of close-ups! They must've been to avoid having expensive sets. Admittedly, the faces in question were all pretty, so that didn't do any harm. I mean, at that age, they were all pretty hot. Apart from Scotty. And Bones looked a bit odd. And there's no Chekov yet, but there is Yeoman Rand and her amazing woven beehive.
Some questions I'd like answered: Why do so many people live in caves hewn from the very rock itself? Where do these poor souls find the time to create elaborate outfits like multi-coloured jumpsuits? And why are there so many James T Kirk imitators out there in the universe?
