Crowley's fingers were, appropriately, thought Aziraphale, in a daze, scrabbling at his trouser buttons, pulling them open. Now was not the time for puns.
'I didn't mean-- ' he began.
He saw a snapshot blink of Crowley, lips red, grinning and poised.
'I didn’t mean ... ' he said faintly, ' ... oh. Ah-- yes, oh-- that,' he sighed.
The Scrabble board tipped lazily off the table, scattering all its pieces over the floor, but neither of them noticed.
Later, on the rug, they giggled as they unstuck the white tiles from each other's skin. Some were stuck on hard, leaving red squares or the faint imprints of letters and values.
'S. E. X. Y,' Aziraphale said slowly, as he plucked them off various parts of Crowley's anatomy and laid them out.
'Of course I am,' Crowley said, preening.
Then Aziraphale's gentle fingers brushed off more letters, that spelled beautiful and then lover. Crowley didn’t laugh, but pressed him to the floor and kissed him for a long time, long enough to roll him in all the pieces and get them stuck back on again.
From the letters on Aziraphale's body Crowley silently spelled out friend and love, I and you.
