I watched more Gensomaden Saiyuki last night. I have to say, despite getting intermittently upset with things like Hakkai's got the wrong chin today! and why the hell has Kenren got that massive overbite in profile? I am managing to love it. Watching it actually helps me think about the canon in a lot more detail - I think it gives me a better overview, which I don't get from jumping between printed books and onscreen scanlations and translations. The different reading formats, scanlations particularly so, make the experience of reading the story less cohesive and quite physically tiring, which perhaps distract me from taking in the finer details. Whereas with the anime the activity of watching it is very linear and there's a nice, brightly coloured flow of information for me to absorb.

I have a craving for blackcurrant squash so strong I can taste it on my tongue.  I got snowed on today for the first time all year and it was absolutely lovely. I walked through Birmingham town centre with big fluffly flakes blowing in my face. Eventually I put my umbrella up, giving in to the realisation that snow is just cold water that sticks to you.

[livejournal.com profile] mistressrenet, I read all 56 chapters of Death Note in two days! Successful pimpage, there, I think.  The [livejournal.com profile] death_note community is energetic, to say the least. I'm definitely an L girl - he has a very sexy brain and the toe thing! They're prehensile and along with the rings around his eyes he looks a bit like a lemur.

This week I've also watched 36 episodes of Gensomaden Saiyuki and my brain is rapidly going into meltdown. Gojyo has pink hair, although I was forewarned about this. Poor Sanzo - his prettiness is much reduced and he mostly looks consumptive. And the general 'let's pay the animators peanuts' look of it is gutting. But my god the subtext shows through, especially in the whole 'Fated Guys' arc. I mean-- ' Fated Guys'?  At that point, even M, who admittedly is well versed in such matters, was shouting 'get a room-- oh, you did' at them.  I have to love it just for that. There's some nice extra bits of plot too.

Damn, it's bedtime. Just so you know, I'm currently brushing my teeth and typing one-handed-- that's dedication.
