I was trying to read a story and it was generally good, but the writer would keep using the word 'teen'. I hate that word. The teen did this, the teen did that. It just sounds lazy, like the writer couldn't be arsed to write 'ager' on the end. And furthermore, I am not going to go on about lame identifiers, as it's an old chestnut. But why not just use the character's name, for pete's sake?
In other things, my computer is still on the blink, and M has taken it to the shop today to see if it can be fixed without costing me an arm and a leg, and the rest. I finally found out what the beeping means, sort of. The two-tone beep is, I suspect, telling me that my CPU needs replacing.
Tomorrow I start a two-day course on 'Dangerous and Disturbing Behaviour'. Should be...fun. Hopefully I won't come out more dangerous and disturbing than before.
Veering wildly
I read a deeply depressing article in the Guardian yesterday, and more depressing things in the papers today; the Pentagon's 'Massive Air Ordnance' which is the length of a bus, and can 'destroy everything' within a one mile radius. They produce an enormous mushroom cloud and aparently this is intended to make Iraqi soldiers think that the US has done the unthinkable.
