Exciting news! I have an Esty shop selling cute book bags and other paraphenalia! It's over here, called Bookity. It has several things on at the moment - three four bags, two purses and some gift tags, and I'm planning to put on more items as I make them. I'm also really happy to do commissions

I've also been contributing a bit to the Literary Gift Company, where there are several more of my book bags for sale, as well as a couple of book clocks. Check them out here. Oh, and I should say I always try to use books that are on their way out, either through damage inside or being out of date. There are a lot of Readers Digest publications out there. The dark art of cutting up books, truly!

I also have a Bookity blog, where I post ideas, prototypes, pretty fabric, tutorials I've found and things that are inspiring me at the moment. So people might be interested in that who also are making stuff.

I'd really appreciate any feedback people have, or actually people's experiences of selling on Etsy. I don't see it making me lots of money right now, but I'm enjoying being creative with it all.

Oh, thank you! I just added a note to the post actually, to explain that I try to only use books that are damaged inside or that are just out of date in some way. Basically books no one wants. Although my inner book nerd still suffers too, even then!

Oh man, I'm sure those will do really well! Etsy is totally your target market. They're really lovely and different.

I sell my artwork on Etsy and it's so straightforward and easy to use, takes all the hassle out of selling your wares.

Oh WOW!!!! That... those are impressive!! Really! I hope your venture takes off well. I think it will because those are such wonderful and refreshing ideas! I see them on the fashion catwalks!!! That first one and last one ... definitely catwalk items for sure!

I love the materials and colours you have picked! So vibrants and vivid! They'd definitely brighten up the winter wardrobe!

If I lived next door to you and had cash to spare I'd buy them in a heartbeat!

I've got an etsy shop too. You can see it here (http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=5402093) if you want.

Your set up looks pretty good on the main page of the shop. You'll want to fill in your policies when you get a chance. Some people won't buy from a shop that doesn't have any.

Make sure you include measurements on all your listings. I noticed at least one doesn't have them. Also, consider adding the measurements in inches as well. Us dumb Americans can't always think in centimeters. :)

And my last bit of advice is to add your country to your location. There are quite a few etsyers who complain about shops that get clever about their location. I'm pretty sure you're not being clever, but with the converted books, people may think you are.

Thanks very much for the advice. I went away and did as you advised, or started to at least. I've added policies, and guess what? I completely had not realised the pun about the location.

The measurement thing is good advice too, thank you. I love your scarves btw, they are very cute!

Glad I could help! If you have the time, check the business topics forum every day. Most of what I just mentioned I saw there first. Not everything they say is actually helpful, but it gives you an idea of what people are looking for in a shop. :)

And thank you!

Amazing!

I'm not much into bags (Backpacks are so much more comfortable for me), but I like them.

Oh wow, these are absolutely gorgeous! I didn't even know people made things out of old books, but now it seems like the best ever idea. If I had any money right now, you can bet I'd be buying The Old Patagonian Express bag from you - it's my favourite. Really beautiful. :)
