Socks above all else

I got your cards,
athena8 and
toscas_kiss. Thank you both, they're lovely. In a fit of organisation, I posted nearly all of mine last week and some today, so they are making their way to various parts of the globe.
Other news, new socks. £5 from M&S, with angora. Or is it mohair? One of the fluffy rabbits, anyway. I think.

I'm on holiday from this Friday until January 5. It can't come soon enough as far as I'm concerned. My boss cancelled our team Christmas meal this year. It was going to be on Thursday, but now it's just... not. I'm not even entirely sure why it's cancelled. Not that I really mind because it's always fairly expensive. But it's odd. Something to ask about when I go back into the office tomorrow.
The book I found on the train turns out to be pretty good. It's like a prequel to Renault's Fire From Heaven, from a Roman and Greek point of view. Win!

Date: 2008-12-15 09:33 pm (UTC)I have indeed read her Alexander/Hephaistion. It's really excellent, specially for such a tricky fandom as Renault.

Date: 2008-12-15 08:51 pm (UTC)It seems that cancelling holiday parties is the way of the world this year. My husband's office has announced that they will not be holding any company-wide celebrations. Perhaps more strangely, they did this despite record earnings, so we know it's not a matter of cost-cutting. Still, it makes for an odd wrinkle in the holiday season.

Date: 2008-12-15 09:36 pm (UTC)You know, I'd not considered the recession factor concerning our place, but maybe that's actually the reason? Your husband's place sounds like my man's place - they're not having a Christmas do either, although they're not exactly doing badly. Maybe they've decided to make savings while the going's good.

Date: 2008-12-16 05:31 am (UTC)We had a party moved from Hotel to the hospital lobby to save money. all have to do with recession I think.
Being on vacation and doing nothing they say is restorative. I haven't done one of those in awhile.
