Yes! Rafa just won gold!

Good match with Gonzalez though, who didn't want to lose easily and hit some massive shots. But, Fernando, you should never have worn those black underpants under white shorts. What were you thinking? The tennis gods ruled against you.

At one point, the commentators reported that Rafa shouted come on to himself in English, rather than vamos. "It's the first time he's ever done that," one mused. "It's usually 'vamos'."

"Roger Federer said exactly the same thing last night," the other said, wonderingly, like there might be some mystical link.

I heart commentators.

And I'm wondering how he knew what Rafa and Roger were saying to each other last night...

The thing is, Rafa's been saying that for ages! Do these commentators ever watch tennis? :D

It was a great match, really good to watch. What a hitter Gonzo is. But Rafa won in straights, hahaha!! YAYAYAY. XD

Yay! *twirls you round*

The vamos v come on thing-- I hadn't really noticed, due to watching tennis often on poor quality live streams. I must say, the BBC commentators don't have that excuse. Hehe.

The most interesting thing is that [livejournal.com profile] best_of_five and I have seen Rogi say "vamos". It's pretty obviously "vamos" not "come on" because of the V at the start. My conclusion is that so much smex has made them osmote self-motivational phrases.

Even the idea of Roger saying vamos blows my mind. He really does? Wow. Maybe he's thinking 'if it works for Rafa... '

*wheezing uncontrollably*

And now I feel a horrible compulsion to go searching for pics of what will doubtlessly be an unbearably cute grinning, sweaty Rafa at the medal ceremony. See what you've done to me? XD

Oh, THANK YOU. That's a far bigger selection than I'd hunted down on my own...whoosh, there goes my productivity for the rest of the evening! That man's smile really needs to be registered as a deadly weapon.

(Did you get my mail the other day, btw? I've been having some weird issues with both email and LJ messaging lately so I feel like I have to doublecheck everything for delivery. So sorry I took so long to get back to you on that!)

You'll be happy to know that today Rafa was talking on TV and said that it was an honour for him to play against Federer -Rafa defended him any time they commented about the bad patch Federer seemed to have ;)

You can find the interview at http://www.rtve.es/:

Q: You think that it's justifiable to trash Federer's game just because he's going through a streak of bad luck?

A: I think that's enough nonsense. Press and people forget too easily. Federer possibly is the best tennis player in History. For me he's the best. I don't know if results say the same but for me in the last years no one had ever marked as much difference as him [[I'm not very sure how to translate that]]: the sensation when he appears in the tennis court... looks like he can't lose. For me that's the most important thing.

I came here wanting to post exactly this comment you have already written!! I watched that interview today, too. Nadal is such a natural man.... he impressed me, not conceited at all, but without false modesty either, and with a deep respect for his rivals.

Hee hee, I was faster this time ;)

I really like his attitude too. It's hard to find someone as successful as him and no arrogant at all~

i am happiest! \o/

we were also lolling at the bbc commentators going on about "locker room respect". code for blowjobs, perhaps? apparently rafa gets a lot of locker room respect these days. yeah, i bet he does.

From: [identity profile] louiselux.livejournal.com
Yes, that good old locker room 'respect'. It's probably why he was to quick to hurry off back to them after getting his medal. They had to drag him back out again. Bless.

Hmmm, I think I've heard him say come on a couple times. When he played in an English speaking country. I can't remember what tournament it was, though.

Apparently he says it quite often now. The BBC commentators are clearly not watching enough tennis.
