HOW the hell did I miss this... I see I must keep closer tabs on favorite authors. Once upon a time, I did read many actual books, including atmospheric fics set on foggy moors, wandered by mysterious dogs, and tales of mythic vampires and monsters.
You evoked the setting and characters so completely that I forgot I was reading an AU! (I prefer to consider them reincarnation fics.) Beautifully conceived, written, beta'd. Yes, please, more; I wanted Thomas to leap into the water and swim for shore!
