Day 158 - runes

Ahem.

I impulse bought them from the British Museum shop, along with King Harald's Saga by Snori Sturluson. It's gripping and fast paced and so far I have got to part 34, where Harald and King Svein of Denmark are about to fight it out over who deserves Denmark more. In this part, I like that there is a court poet known as Thorleik the Handsome. He must've been very very handsome to be known for it.

I also bought Chronicles of the Vikings by RI Page, which I mostly picked because it has a chapter entitled 'the unheroic life' that comes straight after a chapter called 'the heroic life'.

Anyway! I have been practising with the runes (put hand in bag, extract rune, consult little book, feel baffled). Apparently, long distance rune-reading is quite acceptable. Please do feel free to ask them anything you like!! (Answers may not make sense, may contain nuts)

Uh-oh. This is eerily scary, in that overreaching and trying to exceed my own strength is *exactly* what I'm afraid of wrt this project in which I may yet enter or not. Not pain, not headaches, not even boredom as much as biting more than I can chew. But remote reading has this uncanny ability of hitting the nail on the head sometimes. :D

Yeah, and also doing things like often just make you more aware of what you're thinking about something, making you consider it a bit more deeply.

I don't know what advice to give, except - what are the benefits to biting off more than you can chew? Because there might be some. And also, is there a way out if you accept and then decide it's too much after all?

The benefits are 1) I'd be doing and learning something new; 2) my presence will be needed in the USA headquarters for training - this means both visiting San Francisco and seeing my father; now, my father is going to visit me anyway here, but I've never been to the States before.

Also, I think there would still be the possibility of backing out - but only before the expensive training takes place, I'm afraid. So, I think I'm going to accept, but with caution, and ask boss more details about it.
