The Swiss entry for the Eurovision semifinals is called 'Vampires are alive' by a band called DJ BoBo. It must be the cheesiest thing I have ever seen. Sorry Switzerland, but what were you thinking? Apparently it is a favourite to win! Amazing. My favourites so far have been Bulgaria (drumming, chain mail, lavish use of quarter tones) and Serbia (KD Lang-alike surrounded by leggy models). Oh, and Georgia was impressive too. There is a lot of leather clothing being worn generally.

Also, randomly, I had to buy some emergency tights from Boots today, because I got a ladder. On the packet it said they were imbued with the property of 'light shaping'.

Arghh! DJ Bobo is SO bad. XD;; I can't believe he's still there. *traumatized by the early DJ Bobo's dancing moves*

He's a bit frightening! I am almost sorry he got knocked out of the competition, he was such a cheesefest.

It's so cheesy and tacky and ridiculous it's actually brilliant. It's the only song I've heard because I happened to be in the living room while it was on.

It was sort of wonderul in its badness and lack of shame.

I was translating the lyrics for my roommates as they sang and they thought I was making them up. It was so awesome.

The entire purpose of the Eurovision contest is to reach new heights of unbelievable cheesiness without showing embarrassment. That is, after all, the only qualification most of the contestants have to show for themselves!

I will be meeting up with a couple of friends on Saturday for the traditional "groaning in disbelief and mocking" party. :-) (Actually, I haven't dared to watch Eurovision since the infamous "Guildo Horn taking off his shirt and then climbing about the stage while singing about really liking us" incident... so wish me luck for escaping without major trauma this time. *g*)

Guildo Horn.... oh dear. I do wish you luck, although I'm not entirely hopeful for any of us. The British entry is embarrassingly awful, and they wear little pink hats to boot!

Oh dear. The British entry was *amazing* in its utter badness. What were they thinking? Can they have been serious? Can they have been joking? Waaaah!

Overall, I liked Bulgaria best - the show was awesome! - but I'm good with Serbia winning... good song, amazing singer.

But I also thought France deserved more votes! I thought their bizarre pink gay designer mockery was far nicer than the bizarre silver travesty show the Ukraine had so much success with. But maybe I was just charmed by the stuffed animal the singer wore on his shoulder, and the way he looked so fetchingly melodramatic running around the stage with his hand stretched beseechingly towards the camera. :-)

One word: Ukraine. I'm betting on that to win.

(I liked Andorra, actually. Cute[ish] boys with guitars!)

Heee! They were cuteish :D I think I missed seeing Ukraine...

I quite liked Mr Belgium, because he was pretty. That Swedish band looked cute too, the one that we just got given a glimpse of. The singer had a shiny heart thing on his bare chest.

Apparently it is a favourite to win! but it's not even in the final!

Still sulking that Eurovision's displaced Doctor Who.

Woe! I mean, hurray, they have been knocked out. I think someone on TV was lying about that.

DJ BOBO is sooo gross. He used to be popular in Germany, no clue whether this is still the case *brrr ickickick*

Not watching the semis but I'll be damn sure to get stinking drunk on Saturday, singing along and cheering for the sheer loving hell of it!

The vampire song is stuck in my head. Argh. Serbia was my favourite, but all in all I found most of the songs (and performances! how come they all have to have the maximum of six people on stage?) very boring. I'm having a hard time remembering which is which. ^^'

But imagine my anxiety as a Finn when the broadcast begun! We were all so sure it would be a highly embarrassing experience! (I'm very un-patriotic, and even still I was nervous.) There were a small bunch of my friends watching the semi finals, and we all thought the 'postcards' were quite nice (even though we played cliche bingo with them!) - however, I feel compelled to ask what you non-Finnish persons thought of them. (No need to be nice! Just bring it on!)

Woo, I learned something today! Mainly that a 'ladder' can be something else than the thing you climb with. :D

A lot of them were boring, it's true. Just dull songs, which is why DJ BoBo stood out, at least.

Noo, you should not worry! I thought the two Finnish presenters were adorable, and our presenter on the BBC was saying 'ooh, look, they've got chemistry'. The crowd in the hall was massive too. I kind of loved their enthusiasm.

it's that english literalness again. it looks like a ladder, call it a ladder!

I wondered why I enjoyed watching the show this time so much, but then I realized there was a lack of stupid (voice only) presenters! A couple of years back there was a scandal when the Finnish presenters talked rudely of some of the performers... ^^' But 'adorable' and 'chemistry'? Hmmm, interesting. :D

A ladder in tights is called 'silmäpako' in Finnish, which approximately translates to 'a running stitch', but a very literal translation would be 'eye escape'. :D Thus it didn't occur to me to think of it as a ladder.

I watched a segment of it on the bbc worldservice...and it looked...in spite of (or maybe because of) the cheese factor absolutely hilarious and painful to a lot of things ..but oh..marvelous get ups. Yeah baby!

Light - shaping huh!? Maybe someone has found some miracle wonder of science which can only be applicable to tights which causes light to bend and curve making legs look extra, lithesome and svelte and toned...which considering all the excercise you've put in you wouldn't need the light shaping...which reminds me...

stockings...tenpou...library... ^__^ I remember the oddest things sorry!

Oh the clothes! They were marvellous and scary at the same time, and so much leather! Also chain mail, fans and metallic fabric were much in evidence. Who knows what stimulates these crazes?

Heeheee. Light bending tights. I wish my legs were yet more toned and svelte - there's a way to go yet. Also, mmmm. Tenpou. I can totally understand that mental leap. :D
