My mum has a startling turn of epithets sometimes, and she say 'well, bugger me', or 'blow me!' (short for blow me down with a feather I think). When she does that, I have to clamp my mind down quickly to shut off the potentially disturbing images. I don't really think she thinks about what she's saying though. My dad says 'bugger me' as well, as a mild curse, which is even more bizarre. In fact, now I think of it, saying 'bugger me' is pretty popular in Long Eaton generally. Strange how an invite to anal sex can become, just through repeated use and familiarity, just another way of saying 'you don't say?' or 'holy living fuck, really?'

A good local one that slipped into my vocab as a pre teen is "well, bugger me with a fish fork!"

Or my mum's "well, I'll be buggered".

It is strange. *g*
