Dolce and Gabbana have really pretty ads

special pube revealing jeans
highwayman action
gay orgy... or something

Also, found in a Sonning graveyard, a man who loved sailors:

I'm sure people sniggered back then too. Or maybe they were meant to.

... or something, indeed. That's a most intriguing ad.

What is happening? No one seems to know. Maybe the naked man just fell through the ceiling.

My goodness! Those are very very lovely. Delicious hips in the first one and the last one...wonderfully suggestive. I just ordered some books for research purposes, ahem, for our project. I'll let you know how they are. ;)

Mmmm, research. Do keep me informed.

Here's one of em. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/3861872390/104-8620695-3672735

It'll be arriving Thursday. Yay! Also, I started reading UGH for research. Very cool art, but now I gotta know what happens! Would you mind telling me if it has a happy ending?

From: [identity profile] louiselux.livejournal.com
Ooh, you must tell me about it when you get it!

UGH - it kind of has a happy ending, as far as I know. I mean, it's a grim tale really and terrible stuff happens in it, but it is uplifting too, sometimes. And very hot.

From: [identity profile] flemmings.livejournal.com
I must know. What's UGH besides the thing you say when you're put off?

UGH = Under Grand Hotel, a yaoi manga by Sadahiro Mike.

Under Grand Hotel is a prison. I never have quite understood the title, but the inmates are all remarkably attractive and there is a large amount of sex, interspersed with scheming, angst, violence and True Love. Depending on your tastes, it might make you say UGH!

That's a real ad???
Whoa.

It is really real. They are very good.

The Man Who Loved Sailors sounds like a good title for a novel...

... about a man trapped on a boat forever and ever with no sailors at all. Until one is coughed up by a whale!

Also, stop with making me have ideas.

By which I mean don't, obviously.

Coughed up by a whale! Yes! And joins him on his boat, circling the uncharted oceans in search of the mystic ambergris.

From: [identity profile] louiselux.livejournal.com
Because now he has a sailor, the boat can actually move places properly rather then going round in circles. I love the mystic ambergris. Maybe they think they can find it in the hole at the top of the world.

Ooh, yes. Past all the ice and frozen wastes, it leads down to a warm, green land full of...talking fish and things!

Date: 2007-01-24 10:52 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] louiselux.livejournal.com
And the sailor can talk to the fishes, right? Because he lived in a whale and learned there.

From: [identity profile] emungere.livejournal.com
Omg! That makes perfect sense! Yes, he can totally talk to fishes.

Old tombstones are such fun. It really does make me wonder just what the person who ordered it really did mean by their chosen wording. So many amusing possibilities.

And those ads are... Well, "yummy" is a good word. That last one just begs for explanations. XD

That's an awesome tombstone.

My favourite is in the Cat Grounds at Winchester Cathedral. It's very old, 1720s or something, and warns that the person died from "drinking much ale on a very hot day".

A cautionary tale for us all.

Dude, those are some pretty hot ads. Where are they running them?

I've seen the highwayman one in GQ. So very tasty.

Whoa. Those are some pretty, but more notably very gay ads. I particularly like the gay orgy one, where to two guys to the right appear to be staring open-mouthed at the naked guy's crotch.

And, hee. *snickers at the gravestone* He 'served' sailors, did he? My, my...

I know! Whoever picked those words was eightyer very innocent or not innocent at all.

Those ads just boggle the mind.

I can imagine the first two being thought up: "Hey, nudity sells, right? Let's get some really hot guys and have them almost pulling their pants off!" or "Hey, historically-looking guys in makeup are hot, right?"

But what on earth were they thinking for the third one? I mean, what?

From: [identity profile] louiselux.livejournal.com
The mind does boggle. Pleasantly, over mysteriously naked men lying on the floor.

From: [identity profile] sffan.livejournal.com
Where the hell are they allowed to use those ads?

Wow.

I know that one ran in GQ, so probably in those fancy schmancy mens mags.

I love that first one. I hope those jeans catch on and every hot guy ever is practically required to wear them, because GUH. O_o

That last one is part of a larger campaign on a similar theme. They were posted over at foto_decadent a while back, if you want to see them all. XD
