Cool bits - [livejournal.com profile] rachelmanija's list of ideal story elements. The comments are great too - recurring things show up like androgyny, quiet loners, sex up against walls... and that reminds me, I should really get round to unpicking my own obsessions and story kinks.

Also, an interesting meme, because I have been thinking recently that I rarely share my fannish opinions, although I am quite sure I have lots:

via [livejournal.com profile] musesfool: Ask me my fandom opinion

How this works:
1. Ask me one fandom-related question in the comments. This can be fandom specific, general, or about fandom/lj stuff/fic writing/etc
2. Just one question, please, but it can (and perhaps should) have sub-parts. Eta: ask as many as you want - within reason.
3. That's it. It can be as normal or odd as you like.

What do you find particularly appealing about Hakkai and Goyjo (or Hakkai/Gojyo, if you prefer), and which of their incarnations is your favourite?

Hakkai and Gojyo are my favourite incarnation - they are more whole and damaged and human that Kenren and Tenpou, who, even though being gods, have never really lived. They only know that they *want* to live.

I tihnk the most appealing thing about Hakkai and Gojyo as a pairing is something to do with how much between them goes unsaid. They both seem to have such private sides to them and yet they must've got to know each other so well after living together for three years, maybe better than anyone else.

Tied up with this is how dependent they are on each other, in different ways that are not immediately apparent. Hakkai needs someone to keep him grounded and someone to look after. Gojyo needs stability and loyalty. I bet they'd never say any of these things to each other though.

Favorite Wild Adapter moment so far?

Do you think Gojyo and Hakkai would've gotten along together if they'd met when they were children?

And, not an opinion, but would you like some Blade of the Immortal when I send you Trigun?

Is that the manga or the anime? I have vols 1-3 of the manga aleady, although I know there's a lot more than that. But I would like the anime. So, yes please!

Favoutite WA moment: Kubota falling asleep on Komiya's lap. I love them together so much and gah, tragic. Komiya was just so real and jumpy and imperfect, with his sad mum and so clearly falling in love with Kubota, without himself really realising. I like to think that maybe he did realise it, and did something about it. I can't decide if that would be more or less tragic.

I think the pull of FATE would have drawn them together whatever age they met. But, maybe if they met young they wouldn't have the knowledge of how hard and terrible life can be to be able to accept each other just for who they were. Maybe.

I wonder if Gonou would've known what Gojyo's red hair and eyes meant? Maybe he would've disliked Gojyo because of that. Gojyo would find Gonou annoying-- or even distressing, considering how much he seemed to crave attention and love-- because he would never respond to his friendly advances, not even to give him a smile. He'd pretend not to care but be secretly hurt.

Everyone in the world will be asking you about your awesome porn your thoughts on Gojyo and Hakkai, so I ask instead:

What do you think of the House/Wilson dynamic, and in particular, how the show has treated their relationship (especially in the second season)?

Date: 2006-06-17 07:19 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] louiselux.livejournal.com
In series two the question I keep asking Wilson is 'why do you even like this man?' And House keeps answering it himself, telling Wilson that Wilson needs people who are needy. House is the definition of needy.

They seem less friends in this series and more people locked into an unhealthy relationship, albeit one with lots of cute snark and overtones of 'so married', and I could see why Wilson didn't want to live with him, but it was so sweet that House kind of suggested he should come back. Awwww.

But what does Wilson get from being House's friend?

But what does Wilson get from being House's friend?

Something to cuddle. Well, it's difficult to say. He surely gets a one-of-a-kind perspective, and someone endlessly fascinating, the same as House's ducklings. I'd say some part of him is hoping for one of House's startlingly brilliant cures for life and all its woes, but when House does point out where he's going wrong, he denies or ignores it-- the way most people would, really.

Or, I don't know. He's Watson. He needs to be there. :D

Favourite Firefly character, pairing, canon interaction (not necessarily pairing)? :)

I reserve the right for a second question for until after you've watched more Battlestar Galactica. ;)

You know, the favourite character thing is very hard! They work so well as whole. If I had to say one, I might say Jayne, because whenever he is on screen he's the one I want to watch!

I don't have a favourite pairing really and as for canon interaction - I think it must be basically anytime River talks to anyone!

If you met them in real life and got to know them reasonably well, do you honestly think you'd like any of the Sanzo ikou?

Date: 2006-06-16 11:44 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] louiselux.livejournal.com
Hahaha. No. Probably not.

Sanzo would just be personally upsetting and rude and I'd hate him for accurately pointing out my many flaws. Goku would be too noisy and demanding and I could never be patient enough with him. Gojyo would piss me off with his lechery and messiness (although the hot might outweight that). Hakkai... I think Hakkai might be the easiest to get on with superficially, but I'd never feel like I knew him.

So, no... I don't think they'd be easy to like. They are easy to love though. In pen and ink form. XD

What has been the most positive effect of Fandom on your writing, and on that same note: what the most negative?

Date: 2006-06-17 07:06 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] louiselux.livejournal.com
The most positive effect - I think it's the encouragement and help from my friends and fellow fans, mostly in the form of beta reading. I've learnt so much from people about how to write, by talking to them, or betas for and from people, or by just watching what they do with words and thinking 'hmm - can I do that too?' Not in terms of copying their fic (I hope!) but in terms of emulating styles.

The most negative - I'm not sure, to be honest. Maybe it's that writing someone else's characters has not given me much practice is making up my own and I feel the lack of that now I am trying to write original fic.

Why do you think Weiss draws so many people in, despite the terrible-ness of the canon?
